Kwankwaso; The Election Manipulator, By Sabiu Zaranda
Many have called it victory; thousands have celebrated it, while millions have salute him for the giant work but only few call a spade with the name that it rightfully deserved. What was witnessed in Kano as Local Government election will be more conveniently and appropriately termed Local Government selection.
By merely being a member of the progressive movement doesn’t guarantee a person to be a progressive, neither does being in the opposition party make you a saint. These are the kind of things that Nigerians must notice with keen interest as many hide under such pretense to deceive people and perpetuate their evil plan. When we look back at the result of LG election in Nassarawa State conducted under the leadership of Governor Tanko Almakura who happen to be a member in APC, a major opposition party and progressive movement just like Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso one will wonder if the duo shares the same ideology on fairness and justice.
The level of acceptance of injustice in any society expresses their level of ignorance for social justice and well being for all. If we collectively accept the fact that certain people that belong to a specific party are expert in rigging and changing people’s mandate to their selfish interest, what excuse do we have for what happened in Kano? Can we call it free and fair election? Or does Kwankwaso still have the remaining PDP blood in him who makes him to do what he did? Nobody can boldly say the people of Kano are all excited or annoyed with the election result but those that mean kanawa are part of this sham? I have strong believed that the outcome of Kano election doesn’t represent the true color of people’s expectation among the kanawa and Nigeria at large. Even though APC will have win more 70% of the seat if the election was carried out accordingly without any form of manipulation alas that was not witness.
It was said that election can’t be conducted and accepted by all without any grudges and hullabaloo but even with that there is level of sanity that if found the grumbles will be less. Though there were some hitches that cannot be avoided totally but the conduct of Governor Almakura during his state LG election displayed a great sense of fairness and justice when compared with what was seen in Kano recently. The ruling party won six(6) seats, opposition won four(4) while three(3) are inconclusive but the Kano case was different where the ruling party won all the forty four (44) seats without any outstanding result despite their vast population and complexity when compared with Nassarawa state. But as Martin Luther King Jnr said “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” regardless of your affiliation to a party, once your actions are threat to justice, there is need for every individual to protest it and call the person to order more especially if such behavior displayed were alien to what the perpetrators claim or preaches.
I wish APC leaders, members and Nigerian citizens will have the moral fiber to call Governor Rabiu kwankwaso to order. As 2015 draws nearer I pray for my country to have free, fair and credible election.
