Forgive Us, We Just Need Money for Our Cause… Shettima Munguno’s Abductors Beg Him
Relief came the way of the family of elder statesman Dr Shettima Ali Munguno who was kidnapped after Juma’at prayer in Maiduguri on Friday when it was learnt that his abductors who have begun to ask for an unspecified amount of money as ransom have been treating him with utmost respect and have been allowing him to talk to his family members on the phone, a government source said.
The former minister’s family had been worried over the inability of the elder statesman to have access to his drugs, but they got some relief when they learnt that he is psychologically stable and in normal spirit when a family members spoke with him on phone.
“Don’t get worried please, I am fine, just be saying lahaula wa la quwata illa billah, Allah us in control, nothing to worry about, I am Fine” the source quoted the elder statesman as saying.
The remarks of Monguno it was learnt confirms that his abductors has no intention of harming him. The source noted that while he was being forced into a car on the day of his kidnap, his abductors were said to be apologising to him and insisting they merely need money so had to do what they did. They have requested that they needed some “alms to help their course” but didn’t specify any amount.
Meanwhile, Governor Shettima after leaving Maiduguri for Abuja on Friday night had an emergency meeting with President Jonathan and other stakeholders over the kidnap and other security concerns in Borno State . The Governor it was gathered was making frantic contacts and consultations over the matter to avoid the use of force by security agents. It was learnt that the governor is more disposed towards the payment of ransom to the islamists to free Monguno than the use of force that may bring harm to the former minister.
The Governor was said to have made special appeals to his captors to consider his health conditions applicable to his age and release him to reunite with his family so that he doesn’t run short some drugs made of food supplements some of which he has been taking for over 20 years.
