Keshi Recalls Uzoenyi as Echiéjilé is Ruled Out of Brazil 2014 World Cup
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has recalled CHAN’s Most Valuable Player, Ejike Uzoenyi to the Brazil 2014 world cup after being dropped initially from the final 23 man squad.
Uzoenyi’s recall follows the failure of Elderson Uwa Echiéjilé to recover fully from his hamstring injury suffered during an international friendly match against Scotland.
Christantus Ejike Uzoenyi, plays for Enugu Rangers. He was a member of Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 African Nations Championship and was selected the most valuable player of the tournament.
The ouster of Echiejile will no doubt pose a big blow to the defence line of the Super Eagles.
He was a member of the Nigerian U-20 team at the 2007 World Cup in Canada, playing five matches and scoring once. Having made his debuts for the senior side in 2009, he was picked for the following year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa, appearing in two group stage matches in an eventual group stage exit.
Elderson was called up to Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Also that year he was selected for the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, scoring in the group stage opener against Tahiti.
