Kano Govt Partners NITDA, NCC On ICT
Kano State Government is collaborating with relevant agencies such as National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Development partners etc. to develop the capacity of youth in the State to be self-reliant in the field of ICT and become employers of labor, thereby contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Nation.
Speaking during the Computer Science Day organized by Nigerian Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS), School of Technology (SOT) Kano Chapter on 23rd day of December, 2017, with the theme: Information Technology Innovation for Economic Diversification: The Role of Youth, the SSA ICT II Abdulaziz Tijjani Mahmud said Kano State Government is working to identify talented youth with flair for Information and Communications Technology (ICT), with a view to supporting them, develop their talents in software and hardware manufacturing and other Information and Communications Technology (ICT) related areas. He noted that already, an online request data form was drafted to facilitate acquiring such data on the high IQ youth.
The senior official intimated that Kano State Government has offered scholarship to 100 youths, which comprised 60 males and 40 females to undergo a 2-year National Innovation Diploma at the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), a subsidiary of National Communication Commission (NCC). The essence of the course is to bridge the gap in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the State.
He advised the students to make good use of their computer knowledge for economic self-reliance noting that computer has now become an indispensable tool in conduct of day to day transactions at both public and private organizations. He then admonished them not to limit the use of their knowledge of computer to entertainment only, but to use it wisely and in a very legal manner to initiate ways of sustaining themselves economically.
The SSA further assured the students that Kano State Government is committed to nurturing environment for innovation, technology and tech-entrepreneurship, adding that the administration Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje would continue to play a great role as a facilitator and a promoter of technological innovations.
He also advised the organizers to take the onus of imparting good values to coming generation and never lose sight of the primary aim of education, i.e. to become good responsible citizens of the state and the country in general.
He appreciated the contribution of the outgoing leadership of the association and also wished the new ones a successful tenure in office, hoping that they would build on the good work started by their predecessors.
