Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has pardoned 317 inmates making a total of 2,517 inmates released by his administration in three years.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar, made available to newsmen in Kano.
He said the gesture was aimed at complementing the federal government efforts in decongesting prisons across the country.
Anwar noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed states’ governors to help in de-congesting prisons across the country.
Governor Ganduje, who witnessed the release of some of the inmates at Kano Central prison in Kurmawa, called on the released inmates to change their attitudes.
In a remark, the Controller of Prison, Kano, Alhaji Magaji Abdullahi commended governor Ganduje for freeing the inmates.
Abdullahi said the Buhari-led administration has brought a lot of development to the Nigerian Prison Service, the new Janguza prison had reached 60 per cent of completion.
