General Buhari Targeted in Second Kaduna Explosion, Three Aides, Security Personnel Injured
At least three aides and security men attached to former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari were injured in the second explosion that rocked Kawo area in Kaduna on Wednesday afternoon.
The first explosion said to have targeted a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi had earlier occurred along Isa Kaita road as the Islamic cleric drove past to the popular Murtala Square to deliver a Ramadan lecture.
General Buhari was said to be travelling to his hometown in Daura, Katsina state, alongside his aides and security details when the second explosion at Kawo occurred.
Sources said the Kawo blast was targeted at the former Head of State as the bombers allegedly trailed his convoy and detonated the bomb very close to his convoy injuring his security and personal aides. Apart from the shock received from the blast, the General who is also a chieftain of the opposition All Progressives Congress is said to be in good condition.
As at the time of this report, Buhari is said to have returned safely to his home and no official word has come from him or any of his aides.
On Monday, Mr. Buhari had issued a statement accusing President Jonathan of pushing Nigeria to the edge of a precipice. He blamed the president for a spate of impeachments of political office holders who oppose Mr. Jonathan. In his response, Mr. Jonathan told the former military ruler to focus on mending the internal rifts plaguing the opposition APC.
