Jonathan Hold Fence-Mending Meetings with PDP Senators, Enugu PDP Stakeholders
in a move to avert the growing discontent of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over the last ward congresses of the party held across the federation, President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday engaged different leadership strata of the Peoples Democratic Party in separate closed-door meetings.
The president met with senators under the platform of the party, as well as party leaders from Enugu state where the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and the governor, Sullivan Chime are locked in a power tussle.
The governor is believed not to be favourably disposed to Ekweremadu succeeding him whereas he has his eyes on the seat the lawmaker is currently occupying in the Senate.
They were joined at the meeting by the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu who was around for about 30 minutes.
Before the Enugu stakeholders meeting, the president had first met with senators under the platform of the PEoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The identities of the PDP senators who were driven into the Presidential Villa, Abuja in a Toyota Coaster bus could however not be verified as they were carefully kept away from prying eyes in the tinted glasses of their vehicle.
Also in a meeting with the president was the governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, butSuswam, after the meeting said his meeting with the president was a private one.
There has been some disquiet in Benue state chapter of the PDP following the conduct of last weekend’s ward congresses of the party.
Governor Suswam is set to battle the incumbent occupant of the Benue North Senatorial District, Senator Barnabas Gemade for the Ticket of the party, a decision that has caused serious strain in the party in the zone.
