JCI Nigeria Needs Your Help To #SaveDami Okunola
Damilola Okunola was a student of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Saki Campus now known as The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki. He comes from an average family of 7 with a late mother and a retired father from constructing business. His friends jokingly refer to him as “Pastor” because he had always acted and carried himself as one.
He is a Past President of his school’s chapter of Junior Chamber International, Nigeria, a youth organisation poised at providing development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. All of these have now been put on hold.
He has been diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (collapsing variant) since 2003 at UCH (Hospital Number 103084.The illness took a sharp turn in 2016 as it got to END STAGE. Although he had FIVE (5) willing donors in waiting, his family could not surmount the financial challenge and Damilola’s weekly Hemodialysis had to be put on hold.
Last year (precisely September 2016), JCI Nigeria launched the #SaveDami campaign to raise a sum of N8m (Eight Million Naira) amongst their members to enable Damilola Okunola undergo a KidneyTransplant. As at the end of 2016 however, only a total sum of N2,230,125.00 (Two Million, Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty Five Naira) was generated in form of donations from members.
The first step was to re-admit him into the UCH Ibadan, to resume the Hemodialysis and other treatments, at a cost of almost N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) weekly.
Within 16 weeks, a total sum of about N1,600,000.00 (One Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira) has been spent on Damilola’s weekly Hemodialysis.
The 2017 Board of JCI Nigeria has decided to give the fundraising another shot; this time making an attempt at raising the FULL amount so that they don’t have to keep spending from whatever is raised for his weekly dialysis which does not solve the issue completely yet must not be stopped (according to the Doctors).
Since re-launching the #SaveDami campaign 20 days ago, they have raised a total of =N=1,100,000 (One million and One Hundred Thousand Naira) only out of the =N=7,100,000 (Seven Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira). This leaves the team with an outstanding sum of =N=6,000,000. With N200,000 from 30 people OR N100,000 from 60people OR N50,000 from 120people, they believe they can save Damilola’s life.
Camilla Okunlola, unfortunately, has come to bear this ordeal by no reason of his lifestyle or family ties, as the cause couldn’t be established by the doctors. Fate just played it’s sovereignty card on him. In spite of his condition, he is still so full of life and very hopeful.
JCI Nigeria Members says “We are hopeful that the surgery will be successful and we would leave the work of healing to God, who alone has the power to heal…….Our Faith is in God; as this is what gives meaning and purpose to human lives”.
Kindly find it in your heart to help this young man whose family is totally helpless with respect to raising the needed sum.
