Ireti Kingibe Drops Senatorial Ambition, Dumps PDP
Hajiya Ireti Heebah Kingibe has announced her decision to drop her ambition to run for the FCT senatorial race under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
She also said she was withdrawing her membership of the party, citing various factors, including the irregularities that marred the conduct of yesterday’s PDP FCT House of Representatives primary elections.
Kingibe in a terse statement on Sunday stated that, “After close observation of the PDP FCT House of Representatives primary elections, conducted on December 6, 2014, I have come to the conclusion that the PDP FCT senatorial primaries will be neither free nor fair. Therefore, I am withdrawing from the PDP FCT senatorial race.”
She stated further that, “As the PDP has failed to offer a free, fair and democratic platform, where all members can participate without fear or intimidation, I also withdraw from the membership of the party.”
Ireti, the wife of the former chairman of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Baba Gana Kingibe, had said her desire for political office was to bring succour to the less-privileged people in the FCT.
