Ipaja, Abesan Communities Petition IGP Over Alleged Harassment
Residents of Ipaja, Abesan Estate and Baruwa communities in Lagos State, have petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, and the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, over alleged harassment and extortion by operatives of the Ipaja Division of the force.
In a letter signed by Gbenga Adeboye and made available to The Guardian, the petitioners alleged that the officers have turned the station into a bank, where innocent citizens are being exploited.
“A case in question was the illegal arrest of artisans in retail market in their shops while doing their lawful duties. It took the intervention of the Iyaloja, who gathered around N20,000 before the artisans could regain their freedom.”
