Insecurity: Gov Nyako Blast Northern Governors, Says He Stands By His Memo
Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State yesterday said that he stands resolutely firm by the memo he sent to northern governors.
The director of press and public affairs to the governor, Mallam Ahmed Sajoh, during a phone chat with Leadership Sunday said he remained totally by the memo he forwarded to the northern governors, adding that nothing has changed to warrant a change of mind from the time he wrote the memo. All the issues he raised were the actual problems bedeviling the north, he said.
The governor also lashed at his northern colleagues, saying they have to put in more seriousness for the deluge of crisis currently rocking the region to be comprehensively tackled. Their lackluster attitude to issues bedeviling the region was preposterous, he stated.
He said instead of the governors to dwell on security, educational, economic and social challenges bedeviling the north, they often like to dwell on Sardauna Foundation which is of less importance to the north, considering the serious challenges confronting it.
Nyako said he refused to attend the just concluded Northern Governors’ Forum meeting because the governors did not show adequate resolve towards addressing the security issues currently festering in the region but rather decided to be toying with. He said that despite the deluge of security problems afflicting the region, the northern governors said they would deal with only the farmers/herdsmen clashes instead of dealing holistically with the security drift in the region.
Nyako said the second reason he failed to attend the meeting was that the Northern Governors’ Forum has refused to convene a northern caucus meeting so as to coherently articulate their views and missions before the enlarged security meeting, which was another pointer to the non-seriousness of the northern governors towards the security malaise affecting the region.
The governor said he reserved no apology for the leakage of the memo which generated the current debate. On two previous occasions, he has written similar memos to the presidency and they were not replied, he said, adding that with such disposition he has no misgivings against the leakage of the letter and that he would not apologize to anybody
