Increment Of Fuel Price: A Difficult But Necessary Decision By Mu’awiyyah Yusuf Muye
Few days ago, we were all queuing to buy PMS at 180 – 220 naira. as expensive as it was, It wasn’t even available. With your money and struggle, there still wasn’t fuel to buy. 145 naira is a little high for Nigerians at the moment, understandably, but what we are sure of, is this government making judicious use of the funds that are supposed to be given to those oil cabals As subsidy payment.
Nigerians are supposed to be made to understand these things. You see, whether we like it or not, indirectly, we are still getting swindled. Do we know the billions going into private hands without justifiable returns in the name of subsidy? Some of these thieves weren’t even lifting the oil, they were just collecting subsidy money as friends of the Government. These monies can be used to refurbish our hospitals, our schools, build more roads, build more refineries and housing for Nigerians. Prices of goods are bound to go up but with the subsidy payment, directly or indirectly, one way or the other, we were still paying for expensive goods since subsidy is being paid with our money.
Yes we protested during GEJ when subsidy was removed, we trooped to the street because the whole system then was dubious, we knew the subsidy YAMS will be eaten by those thieving GOATS. Fast forward to 2015, our #OccupyNigeria was justified. Billions saved from the stoppage of subsidy payment was siphoned by that same government. We can’t continue like this as a country. All these drastic measures are as a result of the misgovernance of our past leaders, sadly, the Nigerian larger masses are the ones paying for it. But we have to make the sacrifice to better our tommorrow. We should be rest assured that these kind of decisions are always the last options available to President Buhari. A man we all trust and know will make sure these funds will be judiciously spent. These are the sacrifices we have to make for this CHANGE to come into fruition. No one ever said it was going to be easy. But by the time we start reaping the benefits, we will all forget all these hoopla about fuel price hike.
Deep deep down, even those that are supposed to oppose these kind of policies, know it’s the best option, that’s why on this issue, you will never see them occupying anywhere. Because, those that will occupy know those in power are tested and trusted even more than them.
During GEJ when subsidy was removed, HRH, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi then as central bank governor, was in support of the subsidy removal. as long as those funds will be used to benefit Nigerians, he made it known then that subsidy wasn’t sustainable, he never received any backlash from us because we knew he was trusted, same couldn’t be said of Ngozi Okonjo iweala. Who was then minister of finance. Because we know she wasn’t trusted and is one of the most dubious public servants we have ever seen in this country. So, all this noise about double standard can’t possibly applied to us. We knew what we stand for then and we know what we stand for even now.
We will never lose focus.
FOR A BETTER NIGERIA.
