Imo Attempted Bomb Blast: Uwajumogu Condemns Act; Calls For Collaboration Against Terror
Following the fruitless attempt to bomb down the Owerri Branch of the Living Faith Church, a.k.a Winners Chapel, last Sunday by yet to be identified persons, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt, Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has condemned the act, describing it as war against the peace loving citizens of the state.
The Speaker who spoke to journalists yesterday in Owerri, also called for total collaboration and synergy between relevant security agencies in the State as well as, members of the Public to guard against the infiltration of the state by terror elements.
He commended the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, for taking a swift action by convening an expansive security council meeting, as well as, adopting the operation ‘know your neighbour’ policy in curtailing future occurrence of such act, and described it as a veritable step in the right direction.
Rt. Hon. Uwajimogu, also applauded prompt responses of the Church security outfit for being security conscious, as well as the Anti- Bomb Unit of the Nigeria Police Force for responding with precision in deactivating the already planted EIDs, while thanking God for sparing the lives of Imo people and their properties.
According to him, “we thank God Almighty for saving the lives and properties of Imo people. We also thank relevant Security Operatives in the state and His Excellency, the Governor, for their prompt actions in ensuring that such calamity was averted. Indeed, that failed attempt was against the peace loving citizens of the state and we join well-meaning Imolites to condemn this ugly act, while we also call for a closer collaboration between relevant stakeholders in the state to enable us nip challenges of insecurity in the bud”.
While calling for support on the operation ‘ know your neighbour’ policy of the Governor, the Speaker further urged people of the state to remain security conscious in their daily activities and to report any strange movements of objects and persons in their locality to the security agencies nearest to them for immediate action.
On the 2015 general elections in the state, Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, also advised politicians who are already bent on capitalizing on the recent security development in the state to score cheap political points, to have a rethink, as security was the collective responsibility of every citizen.
