I’ll Soon Show You My Ministerial Nominees, Buhari Tells Governors
President Muhammadu Buhari has assured that he will soon show state governors the list of his ministerial nominees before submitting it to the Senate for clearance. He gave the assurance during Tuesday’s meeting with the governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. A source who was at the meeting however admitted that the adjournment to July 21 by the Senate may stall the announcement of the ministers.
Buhari has been criticized for delaying the appointment of his ministers but the President has in turn explained that he could not understand why people were so anxious to have ministers. He had also rejected the idea of state governors nominating his ministers for him.
During a closed-door meeting with some APC governors shortly after winning the March 28th? presidential election led by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, the governors made some demands, including submitting ministerial and ambassadorial lists but the request was turned down.
The President was said to have told them that the Constitution does not mandate him to take a list of ministerial nominees from them, advising them instead to concentrate on getting good hands to run their states with them. Twenty eight days after mounting the saddle as the President and the Commander-in-Chief, Buhari is yet to announce his cabinet members.
Aside the appointment on May 31, 2015 of Femi Adesina, former Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspaper and former Nigerian Guild of Editors, (NGE), as Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) as well as Garba Shehu, former Director, Media and Publicity of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, as Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) ?and Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure as the State Chief of Protocol (SCOP), a career Foreign Service official who until his appointment was serving in Aso Rock Villa as a Special Assistant (Presidential Matters)?, no other appointment has been made officially.
