Ibadan Agog for Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria Rally
By Chuks Collins
Following the huge success it recorded in its maiden national zonal rally organized by the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) for the South-East states at Awka, the Anambra state capital last Saturday, the ancient city of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital is now literally vibrating and ready to play host to the other states in South-West for an historic rally put together by the organization for the people of the zone beckoning on the President Goodluck Jonathan to seek a renewal of his mandate to pilot the affairs of the nation for the next four years.
A spokesperson for the advocacy group, Prof Joe Okanlawon told journalists in Ibadan yesterday that the people of the zone are eagerly awaiting the day of the rally to speak with one voice that Dr Jonathan should continue to pilot the affairs of Nigeria because he has done a very good job in the first tenure which according to him has made it necessary for the renewal of his mandate.
Prof Okanlawon said that the need to urge the president to run in 2015 is borne out of the fact that his performance in the first tenure was landmark never achieved by any of his predecessors in their first tenure.
The TAN chieftain, also a sociologist of repute noted that the interesting aspect of the mobilization to call on the president to run for second tenure is that people across the length and breadth of the South-West gladly embrace the idea of having Dr Jonathan for another four years which according to him is symbolic of the positive appreciable impact the transformation agenda of the president has on them.
This according to the egghead is more so when considered that the Yorubas were known for setting high marks for their duty bearers have gladly buy into the good product of transformation, revolution, growth and development of the nation as personified by the incumbent president Dr Jonathan who has actually given human face to governance and empowerment contrary to what it used to be in the past when lip service are merely paid to the issues that genuinely affect the populace.
Prof Okanlawon particularly commended the South West people for not allowing themselves be thrown into un-necessary antagonism with a man who has beyond any reasonable doubt delivered on his pre-election promises some four years ago on the altar of bandwagonism.
He noted further that every section of the society in the Yoruba land are favorably disposed to having Dr Jonathan continuing and consolidating on his landmark achievements which has practically touched every sector of the economy.
A student of the University of Ibadan, Comrade Olugbade Adeyemo while answering questions from journalists on the roles the students would play to ensure a successful rally on Saturday said that their involvement would be total and that the support of the students for the president would go beyond the rally as they are prepared to ensure a smooth sail for Dr Jonathan’s re-election in the 2015 presidential election.
The student union activist said the decision to give maximum support to the president emanated after a careful appraisal of the president’s achievements and the antecedents of those that are pretending to be interested in the plum job.
The director of operation of the advocacy group, Barr Benchuks Nwosu said in a separate interview that all arrangements have been concluded for a successful rally which according to him has gotten the approval of all the relevant law enforcement agencies
