I Remain The Speaker of Rivers House of Assembly – Hon. Amachree
Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Daniel Amachree has said he remains the speaker of the House, adding that the leadership of the House was still intact despite failed attempt by five lawmakers, to impeach him.
Amachree, who spoke to journalists immediately after presiding over the plenary session where a request by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for some minor amendments in the 2013 appropriation Act was presented, described the claim by Bipi that he was the new Speaker of the House as a fallacy.
He said “I am the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly and this is my deputy. This is the deputy leader of the House of Assembly and this is the clerk of the House. The leadership of the House is intact and what Evans Bipi told you is pure fallacy, they are all lies.
“As you can see, we just finished today’s deliberation and
we sat. The videos are there for you to see. There was no attempt at all to impeach either me or any other principal officer of the House. We were really shocked to hear on the radio that I have been impeached. How can five members just sit and impeach the leadership of the House. We have 27 here. We don’t know what their aim is, but today, we did not expect any chaos in the House.”
Five members of the House of Assembly, including Hon. Michael Okechukwu Chinda, Martins Amaewhule, Victor Ihunwo, Godspower Kelechi Nwogu and Evans Papakaye Bipi, had yesterday morning announced the impeachment of the Speaker, as well as the suspension of 15 un-named members of the House.
But reports that emerged afterwards indicate that the claim by Evans Papakaye Bipi had no truth as what happened was only an attempt.
