I Am Not a Candidate for the Head of World Trade Organisation – Okonjo Iweala
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has denied speculation that she is a possible replacement for the current Head of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Pascal Lamy whose tenure expires in September 2013.
There have been news circulating in various media that one of the duo of Finance Minister Okonjo-Iweala and the erstwhile Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji are warming up to take over the leadership of the WTO, but a statement by Paul Nwabuikwu, Senior Special Assistant to Mrs Iweala said recent speculations linking the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to a future role as head of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) is false.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr Okonjo-Iweala is not a candidate for the leadership of the WTO. She has also not expressed any interest whatsoever in the position”, Nwabuikwu said.
