Huge Crowd Receive Buhari In Katsina As 12 PDP Lawmakers, Ex-Dep Gov, Others Defect To APC
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was almost left bare in Katsina today as no fewer than 12 lawmakers, a former deputy governor and other top PDP leaders in the state defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a campaign rally where over a million people trooped out to the Polo ground venue of the event to receive President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, who also hails from the state.
The enthusiastic APC faithful worked themselves to frenzy at about 3.30 pm local time when Buhari entered the arena waving the party’s symbol, the broom, as they chanted slogans of the party.
The decampees included for military governor of Borno State, Col. Abdulmumini Aminu (Rtd); former Deputy Governor of Katsina State under late President Umaru Yar’Adua, Ahmed Tukur Jikamashi; 12 members of the Katsina State House of Assembly; former member of Governor Ibrahim Shema’s cabinet, Nasidi Baure; former chairmen of Daura and Baure local government councils; prominent former governorship aspirant on the platform of PDP, Kabir Barkiya, and Ambassador Aisu Daura, immediate past Almiru Hajj of the state, among others.
Receiving the decampees, Buhari assured his supporters on his commitment to tackle insecurity and corruption while providing job opportunities for the teaming youths in the country. The highlights of the occasion included the re-presentation of the APC governorship candidate in the state, Aminu Bello Masari, to the party faithful by Buhari.
