Health: FG to Equip Laboratory for Epidemic Diseases In Niger
The Niger State Commissioner for Health and Health Services, Dr. Mustapha Jibril has announced the Federal Government’s decision to equip a Laboratory to contain Lassa Fever and other related epidemic diseases.
The Commissioner disclosed the FG’s intention yesterday, during a working tour inspecting the Lassa Fever isolation Centre in Minna General Hospital. He said, the Federal Ministry of Health, gave the State 2 Choices ; to either build and equip a new laboratory structure or the Niger State Health Ministry to provide a laboratory structure for them to equip.
In his words, “We were given 2 choices. So, after due consultations, we considered providing the structure for the Federal Government to equip”. He added that, having such laboratory will go along way in tackling epidemic diseases which already is in Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s comprehensive health programme across the state while, he called on Nigerlites to support the government.
He further noted that, Niger State will be the first to have such a laboratory structure in North Central States while reiterating the resolved and commitment of Governor Bello in prioritizing Education, Health, Agriculture, Youth and Women Empowerment without Neglecting other sectors.
On the working tour, the Commissioner was in company of; the Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry for Health and Health Services, Dr. Ibrahim Tiffin, Dr. Idris Shehu, the Niger State Epidemiologist, the Zonal Coordinator for World Health Organization, Dr. Fadinding, Dr. Abdulrahim, the Niger State Coordinator of WHO, Dr. Kolo, the Managing Director of Minna General Hospital, UNICEF State team and the NCDC and FMOH surveillance team.
