Gunmen Kill Over 20 In Jos Fresh Attack
Gunmen who reportedly hauled explosives and shot sporadically in an attack before dawn early Saturday on nine villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of plateau state has left over 20 people, mostly women and children dead.
“The attackers came in large group and Eye witness said the gunmen who dressed in bullet-proof vest and army camouflage color, divided themselves into groups and for the first times not only shot their victims but also used explosives.”
Source said the police had to evacuate hundreds of women and children from Nyar village for fear of he attackers returning at night.
Confirming the incidence, spokesperson of the Special Task Force (STF) in the state, Salisu Mustapha said members of the STF have gone to the area and effected some arrests, but however declined to mention the number of persons arrested.
“Some unknown group attacked some villages in Barikin Ladi early on Saturday and killed a lot of people,” he said.
Mr. Mustapha said officers have been mobilised to the area and investigations have commenced.
The Member representing Barkin Ladi in the Plateau state House of Assembly Hon Gyang Fulani also confirmed the incidence saying he saw some of the victims with his eyes.
Nine villages in my constituency were attacked simultaneously by unknown gunmen. I’m yet to get any detail from security agencies, but my people told me the gunmen were armed with sophisticated weapons and invaded the people in their sleep”, he said .
“I have confirmed nine people killed in Kakuruk village, another eight were killed in Ruk. These are the ones I saw with my eyes, there could be more, the security agencies will give the confirmed figure because I saw them collecting information right there, though people complain they came too late to the scene.”
