Gunmen Kidnap Elder Statesman, Shettima Ali Munguno in Maiduguri
The 92 year old elder statesman was abducted at Mafoni Mosque in Maiduguri while attempting to enter his car after leaving the mosque.
This news was confirmed by the Special Adviser on Communications to Governor Kashim Shettima, Alhaji Isa Umar Gusau.
A former Federal minister for Air Force and internal affair (1965-66), federal commissioner for trade and industries (1967-71), minister of mines and power, petroleum and energy (1972-75), Monguno has been a consistent critic of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and the federal government.
Reacting to the incidence, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state condemned the kidnapped and described it as “inhuman doe anybody to kidnap a 92 year old man”
Mr shettima who said he has spoken with the President Goodluck Jonathan as well as the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki on the kidnap said “only a mad man will harm an old man”
Meanwhile, Borno elders led by Ambassador Gaji Galtimari this evening held a security meeting at the family house of Ali Munguno to discuss the kidnap.
Present at the meeting were the state governor, Kashim Shettima, state Director of the State Security Service, the state commissioner of police as well as other security chiefs in Borno state.
Details of the meeting have not been made public.
