Gunmen Attacks Gen. Buhari’s Hometown, Police Station Razed
Daura, the home town of former Head of State and Leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina state on Thursday came under the attack of insurgent group as explosion and sporadic gunshots rocked the quiet town.
The attack on Daura which occurred barely 48 hours after a state of emergency was declared on three northern states by President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly started at about 10 p.m. and lasted for over one hour.
A police station was reportedly brought down by the attackers, why they also robbed banks and homes.
Some residents said the attack started around Daura Motel in the city centre before the attackers moved against banks and a police station.
Another witness said the attackers freed detainees at the police station in the town and then threw explosions at the station and prison.
It was not immediately clear who the attackers were, but the manner of attack carries the semblance of the extremist Boko Haram sect that has been terrorizing northern Nigeria since 2009.
Prior to this attack on Daura, Katsina state has been relatively peaceful and devoid of attacks that has characterised many part of the north, especially Maiduguri and Yobe state.
