Gunmen Attack Oyo APC Chieftain

Armed men believed to be hired assassins attacked the? Oyo home of a former lawmaker, Waliu Ganiyu, in the early hours of yesterday.
Waliu, who represented Atiba state constituency between 2011 and 2015 in the Oyo State House of Assembly, lost his re-election bid and he is challenging the result at the tribunal.
The armed men, numbering 4 were said to have arrived the politician’s Oyagbe, Oke-Olola residence ?at around 1:20 am, in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry car, and operated for about an hour before a team of policemen arrived the scene.
Speaking with The Nation, a visibly shaken former legislator said “when we heard the sound of gun, we thought it was from the night guards until it became sporadic. I checked my watch and it was 1:20? am. This is the second time in a week. Last week, a day to the beginning of the tribunal, they came around the same time but they were unable to gain entrance. They came with a Toyota Corolla car without number plate.
“?The gun shots pierced through the wall of my house while the roofing sheets of my house and those beside mine are clear evidences. I don’t know why I would be a target of hired killers. I am not involved in any shady deal and I don’t take things in a do-or-die manner. This is not the time I will lose election and each time, I never take laws into my hands until I won during the 2011 election. I just have to thank God because if they had been allowed to operate for another 10 minutes, maybe I would have been buried.”
He, however, called on the inspector general of police and other security agencies not to fold their arms on the matter, saying that if it is allowed to go without being investigated, politically-motivated killings may become rampant in the town and beyond. “It must be nipped in the bud,” he said.
