Group Launches Empowerment Programme For Abuja Youths
The Likeminds Projects will launch its Pilot Youth Empowerment & Livelihoods Programme (YELP) pilot project for IDPs on Sunday 29th October 25, 2017, in Bwari Community of the Federal Capital Territory with a total number of 30 beneficiaries.
The Pilot Scheme is sponsored by The Hamburger Initiative für Menschenrechte (HIM), a German organization composed of citizens from Hamburg with a broad range of academic and professional backgrounds. Who supported human rights activities.
The Likeminds Projects was awarded the prize in April 2017 to support its Vulnerable Communities Programme under which this pilot project is currently being run. The choice of Bwari was arrived at by the Likeminds Project Team after series of needs assessments were carried out.
The project is specifically designed to provide training and capacity building to youth in:
- Financial Literacy
- Agricultural Value Chain
- Arts and Crafts
- Baskets and Soap Making
- Masonry, Tiling and Painting
About LikeMinds Project
The LikeMinds Project is a non-profit, non-partisan Organisation made up of likeminded individuals who share a common objective of giving back to the community towards building a peaceful, equitable and just society.
The LikeMinds Project was set up in 2006 as an informal social network with a few friends meeting together on a regular basis and carrying out community service related activities. It was incorporated in 2008 and has since grown into a volunteer-run socially conscious network. Since conception in 2006, The LikeMinds Project has organized several projects through the efforts of volunteers, individual and corporate donations.
It currently runs two programmes, The Volunteers for Peace Programme and Vulnerable Communities Programme under which it carries out community based projects.
The Northeastern Region of Nigeria has received significant focus of the Likeminds over the last Four Years. Thousands of families and households in Borno, Adamawa and Yobes States have received humanitarian reliefs in the form of food, clothing, basic necessities and empowerment in form of training from the Likeminds. Likeminds has partnered with several organizations like Dangote Foundation, MTN Foundation, ActionAid among others.
