Govt Evacuates National Assembly, Federal Secretariat Over Bomb Scare
Barely a day after the deadly Monday morning blast that killed 71 people and injured 124 more in a bus park near in Nyanya, Abuja, fresh concerns and anxiety has gripped residents of the Federal Capital Territory amidst, fears and confusion still amid speculation that explosives had been rigged in public places.
As a result, the authorities have evacuated the Federal Secretariat complex as well as the National Assembly complex to prevent any casualty should the speculation turn out to be true.
Although there was no official confirmation yet of any bomb or explosive found at the various complexes, Staff said they had been ordered to go home.
The National Assembly, located within the Three Arms Zone, Nigeria’s most fortified district, which lies a short distance from Nyanya, the scene of Monday’s bombing and a stone throw to the headquarters of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), attempted a jail break on March 30 was the first to be evacuated.
This was followed by the federal secretariat with the ministry of education among the first offices within the secretariat to be evacuated.
Other office in the federal secretariat, which was also evacuated includes the ministries of health, science and technology, women affairs, communication technology and Niger Delta.
