Governor Mimiko Set to Dump Labour Party for PDP
The speculation has been rife for about a year now, but it appears the stage is now set as reports state that for Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has concluded plans to dump the Labour Party (LP) and decamp to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mimiko will declare “in a matter of days”, sources who is privy to the arrangement said.
Aside dumping the Labour Pary under which platform he contested and won the governorship seat of Ondo State, the governor is also reported to have concluded a deal with President Goodluck Jonathan to fully support the latter’s 2015 re-election bid.
Indication that the governor will toe this line emerged after the recent collapse of his political structure, the ‘Iroko Frontiers’ into a Jonathan re-election group called ‘Believe Nigeria, Trust Goodluck’ as part of moves to work towards the re-election of the President.
But apparently not satisfied with that the presidency is said to have asked the governor to ‘formally move in with the PDP to consolidate both Jonathan’s re-election bid and also up the ante of the PDP onslaught against the APC in the South-west Geo-political zone,” sources further stated.
Also. the political body language in Ondo State is now said to be picking a cue from that of the governor as his supporters across the state have started making preparations towards his formal declaration for the PDP.
