Governor Masari And The Finacial Future Of Katsina by Jamilu Mabai
Patience is a virtue that is not common among societies; Katsina is blessed to have that virtue irrespective to how they are being governed by its leaders. No wonder it is called the home of hospitality.
The people have endured the hard times of the previous government under the able leadership of Dr Ibrahim Shehu Shema with fear & Hope of optimism that with the passing of time their hardship will certainly come to pass. The misery that befalls upon them caused by inhumane leadership was perceived to have varnished when God decided to bring in a change in the leadership that steer the wheel of governance in Katsina State.
God gave us Governor Aminu Bello Masari who was endorsed by the MOST respected Elite of our time and the people of Katsina out of their sheer hospitality voted for Masari which he became the new Governor of Katsina for the next four years.
When Masari assumed power, a new light of hope that comes with freedom and expectation filled our hearts, the teeming populace trusted him based on his campaign promises which people thought were formulated, constituted by professional in their own field of specialty which within No time he will begin to implement those recommendations that must have been assessed, verified and compiled by his trusted professionals.
The people needed a different script, a different approach and a more realistic solutions that will unlock the people from the shackles of hardship, fear instilled by the PDP Government.
Yes Masari met problems; he must have also anticipated these problems going by the unfortunate economic situation at hand, but how he chose to respond to problems is what really matters, Governor Masari could have avoid these financial problems with foresight and good design which might be cheap had it been he did the right thing when he ought to have done the right thing.
We could as well say Masari inaction at a time when he needed to set his priorities right, to appoint the right people who are eagerly seeking to recruit people better than they are. Not just employees, but consultants, coaches and even competitors.
It takes guts for any serious Government to aggressively try to persuade people more passionate, more skilled or smarter to join in, because by raising the average, they also expose themselves to the fact that they’re not as good as they appear to be [Mediocrity kills].
Nevertheless, acknowledging there is a problem that needs the intervention of our OLD AGE ELDERS & TRADITIONAL RULERS to seek their old wisdom is a way forward but it will be more effective not to be economical this time around but to seek the wisdom of professional expatriate No matter the cost of hiring them. Since we can afford to approve the renovation of the old government house at the cost over half a billion Naira and the cosmetic renovations of some selected public schools at over the rate of N40 million each. Because the easiest way to gain attention is to run more ads, or yell more loudly which our governor is crying out loud, yelling unnecessary while he knows the solution to his yelling, by redirecting the huge amount of money approved to proper usage in acquiring knowledge on how to have a PLAN B that will curve new ways to secure the financial future of Katsinawa.
Another aspect is the challenge of power which is expensive and that power is inelegant. And that power often leaves behind a trail of destruction. The bone of contention is what is the purpose of having a Finance commissioner & economic team if they cannot come up with ways to secure the economic future of Katsina State?
Now the reality is Katsina State Local Government Area councils are on the verge of collapsing [God forbid] due to not having a proper clear detailed policy that will re-strategize, reposition, reawaken and drive them forward towards unending, undoubted autonomous independence [Freedom is the greatest feeling that can happen to any society].
The optimist understands that there’s a difference between today and tomorrow. There is always room for more. The vision is based on possibility, the future tense, not the present one.
Pessimists have trouble making room for possibility, and thus possibility has trouble finding room for pessimists, by pessimist I am referring to those hungry chickens looking for excuses to maintain the status quo, those wolves of Social media that sings the sour & bitter songs of preparatory project steps, whom exposed the mismanagement & financial atrocities of their pay masters [dashing away exotic cars to party elders, spending huge amount in the name of iftar feeding & other eye services in the name of achievements] will remain and transitioned to misguided pessimist. ,
To the Local Government people whom have fell victim to current financial predicament should not despair but prepare and imbibed themselves with the same patience, hope and determine optimism that will bring a change when the time comes in few years to come because as soon as we realize that there is a difference between right now and what might happen next, we can move ourselves to the posture of possibility, to the self-fulfilling engine of optimism.
May God Save the Leadership of Masari.
