Gov. Ganduje Tasks FG On Weigh Bridges In Kano
Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has appealed to the Federal Government to provide weigh bridges in the state, as part of measures to curtail recurrence of roads dilapidation.
He stated that the provision of such facilities would also help the government to generate more revenue and prevent accidents associated with overloading. The governor made the call while receiving the Corps Marshall, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, at the Government House in Kano.
The governor, who stated the administration is very concerned about the condition of roads in the state pointed out that a plot of land has been provided for the Federal Road Safety Corps to build its office and extend its services to all parts of the state.
Governor Ganduje expressed delight that the Corps is working with the state Revenue Service to ensure proper vehicle management and revenue generation through local production of vehicle number plates.
On his part, the Corps Marshall, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, told the governor that the agency is working with the state Internal Revenue Service to produce number plates in Kano, to reduce the stress of going to Abuja or Lagos for the plates.
He told the governor that FRSC intends to start the construction of its permanent office complex in Kano as the present one is not befitting enough. “Funds for the project have been provided and we want Your Excellency to lay the foundation within the next four few months”, the Corps Marshall stated.
Mr. Oyeyemi used the occasion to sympathy with Governor Ganduje over the death of his mother, Hajiya Fatimatu Umar, recently. He also expressed commiserated with the people of Kano over the fire incident at Sabin Gari market, describing it as shocking.
