Gov. Apkabio Reacts to Tambuwal’s Defection from PDP to APC, Says Speaker Should Honourably Resign
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has reacted to the defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio who is the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum said that the speaker’s defection did not come as a surprise because the PDP has always suspected that he had such intentions.
He however said that even with Tambuwal’s defection, the PDP majority in the lower house is still intact.
Speaking to journalists when he visited the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Tuesday, Akpabio said as an honourable, he would expect that Tambuwal will step down as speaker of the House.
He said, “We have always known the Speaker as a PDP man in name but APC in action and he has proved it to the world. I will only ask him to be honourable and resign especially as the PDP is not in crisis. I wish the Speaker well in his new party.”
