Gov Ambode, It’s Time To Set The Pace… A Note By Eniola Opeyemi
“The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” -Norman Peale
Before the electioneering, most of us have seen Lagos as the real pace setter considering her status as an opposition government led state, it’s a real battle checking the days of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (BAT) with the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo, he proved the Federal government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wrong by successfully leading a state that could be sustained even when its financial incapacitated, I could remember vividly his alias, “Ekun oko Obasanjo”, today Asiwaju as popularly referred to has built on his success in Lagos state as a hub to lead the front role in the national politics.
After Asiwaju comes the anointed chief of staff to the latter who is less known to the entire populace of the state, he proved critics wrong, he performed well, he is a senior advocate of Nigeria that not only his colleagues were proud of but the entire people in the judiciary, I am referring to Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).
Aside the fact the BRF is a lawyer, he is also an orator and the chief marketer of APC, his performance can only be compared to that of the richest state in Nigeria in terms of federal allocation which is Akwa – Ibom then led by Governor Godswill Akpabio. Tunde as being called by his wife Abimbola Dame Fashola is not just disciplined when handling the state’s assignment, he is also a disciplined husband.
Definitely, BRF as come and left the position of the Governor, now it’s the era of the former accountant general of the state, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
I fell in love with this man from the day I read his profile banking on his experience to give Lagos state that touch that places like Johannesburg (south – Africa), Newyork (U.S.A), London (England) and many top world cities as gotten. During the electioneering, I was made to believe that Governor Ambode (Ambo) isn’t the talking type, I see him as someone who do most works practically like he did to rescue Lagos state while he was the accountant general of the state, aside the fact that he is the civil servants choice, politicians also verged for him to ensure that he gained the votes of everyone including the youths and students in the state. Mr. Kola Peregrino, the former, organising secretary of APC in the state, won’t mind going through stress to connect the students and youths, Chief Sunny Ajose, the former Head of service in the state will continue calling on the civil servants to be assured of their votes, Mr. Lateef Raji, the former Special Adviser on information and strategy will be on the social network to reach out to number of youths, so are many other dignitaries not forgetting the undergraduates that donated funds for the success of “Ambo”.
Now, “Ati de” ( we have arrived), let’s get to work, Mr. Governor sir, Lagos state is not only the centre of excellence, Lagos state is a hub that dictates the tune at which every other states work, I can see the creation of ministries by you, the merging of some and also the abolition of many, bravo!. Going through some daily, i recalled your overhauling of boards and parastatals, that also tell that you want to be fully in charge, a nice step too, but, we need to set the ball rolling, after Nigeria, the next place of focus is Lagos state, let’s start the work, the best of brains are needed to get to work immediately, while other states can wait for weeks and months to get to work, Lagos state can’t afford to wait a minute because, Lagos project is a continuous one.
The newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Obasa, assured on a special status for Lagos state which has been clamoured for a long time ago, this statement flashes ones mind to commitment and a good relationship to run between the Executive and the Legislative arm, yes, I must seize this opportunity to congratulate the Lagos state House of Assembly Led by the man of vision, Rt. Hon. Obasa. But is this enough?
Lagos state is a state that can run 24/7 days economy, quoting the campaign manifestation of “Ambo”, security is on board, though, there is need to review ir from time to time work, the Lagos state electricity board can now work on distribution of Larger quantity of electricity believing we can now get the approval of the Federal government, many industries can employ more people, and the income generated by the government can cater more for social amenities.
The floods, though, not just a problem in Lagos state, as it’s also experienced in Ghana and Cameroun but a Lagos solution can give clues to other countries.
The traffic situation is Lagos state is just not getting any better with the ever increasing population of Lagos state, am happy to see the people’s governor showing keen interest in solving the problem, It needs a very permanent one, traffic situation gives a lot of commuters headache, considering lateness to work and also getting home so late and tired everyday of the week.
Lagos will continue to demand more solutions as it’s the economic capital of the most populous black nation, this solutions can only come and be sustained if we get young ones into government to inject what they have learnt academically, though, most of this age bracket, I mean in the youths in their 20’s and 30’s knows better about stress and hardship in the country, yes, Governor Ambode can set another record for this new government by bringing the youths in their 20’s into government. I have come across many holding Bachelors and masters, they can learn at fast rate and pace, yes, this is attainable.
Finally, many people within and outside the continent are looking unto the Lagos state Government led by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to set the pace, the time is now, Mr. Governor, please set the pace.
