Gov. Amaechi Consults Pastors, Marabouts, As Sack By Supreme Court Becomes Imminent
Worried over the Supreme Court case between him and his cousin Celestine Omehia which may likely come up for hearing on November 11, 2013, River state governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi allegedly brought some powerful pastors and marabouts for the purpose of prayers for his victory.
The Supreme Court case was instituted by former River state governor Celestine Omehia who was sacked and replaced with Rotimi Amaechi for what the court said was an illegal substitution of the candidature of Amaechi with Omehia.
Sources said the governor who is afraid that his opponents would rally round Celestine Omehia and use the case to throw him out has stationed the pastors and marabouts are stationed at government house.
The pastors and marabouts that the source said has assured the governor that via their prayers and incantations all evil forces threatening his government would be ward out would also pray for peace to return to the crisis-ridden state.
The governor we gathered is not stopping at the use of the pastors and marabouts to ensure victory at the Supreme Court. He is also making moves to see how the case can be withdrawn from the court.
Rattled by last week‘s ruling of the court consolidating his petition and that of chief Cyprain Chukwu, the governor is said to have initiated moves to meet with his cousin, Omehia to withdraw the case from supreme court.
Sources said the emissaries reportedly asked to facilitate a private meeting with Omehia and Amaechi. Our source also revealed that highly respected Ikwerre elders, top politicians believed to have Omehia ear were included in the meeting. The source continues to disclose that governor Amaechi said he is ready to accept conditions that Omehia may insist on. He said offers allegedly made by the governor as a way of showing seriousness was written. The source also said Amaechi allegedly promised to bring on board Omehia’s key supporters in an imminent cabinet reshuffle.
In reply, according to another source, Omehi said he would first of all consult with his party members including supporters before taking a position. He said the request goes beyond him as a person.
It would be recalled that Governor Amaechi had on the eve of the Nigerian Governors forum election; May 23, 2013 visited Omehia in his Abuja residence in company with Chidi Lloyd.
It was shortly after the visit chief Cyprian Chukwu instituted another petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the leave granted to Omehia by the appeal court to petition against the earlier high court ruling.
