Why GEJ Must Declare a State Of Emergency on Himself By Dahiru Mohammed Lawal
“…We didn’t have to wait until a practically non-existent government of Nigeria gave us the go-ahead before mounting a humanitarian effort to rescue those 276 abducted girls.”-Senator John McCain
And yet another bomb blast in Kano, and yet another in Jos and… It is no longer news. We do not need a divine message from above neither do we need an amplification by a people trapped in the fetal claws of rising insurgency, bloodbath and ruthless annihilation to align with Sen. John McCain’s point of “practically non-existent government in Nigeria”
The world knows, “America knows” That in Nigeria there is practically no government! Its people has been drowned in a pool of agonizing and most horrific massacre ever in the history of genocide for about five years now. The people of the areas most prone to the Boko Haram hermorheage has seen that if not for the sudden international outcry, its own government practically does not give a farthing wether they live or continue to die. They have now decided to take it upon themselves to defend themselves which is highly commendable. The people of Kalabalge in Borno state set the pace followed by the people of Adamawa. If other villages will emulate this heroic daring move then woe betide our government and bye bye to Boko Haram. It is appallingly embarrassing that a gigantic state like Nigeria with all its armed forces and internal security operatives combined cannot perform a sweeping operation and put an end to some common bloody few blood suckers that has held this nation on its jugular for about half a decade and counting!
Make an example of the Sambisa forest and see if it doesn’t send shivers down the spine of their other branch “offices” and even outside networks. Otherwise these insurgents will continue to grow from strength to strength putting the Nation into shame – if it knows one – while it becomes a laughing stock in the league of Nations on the global map. That Boko Haram are succeeding and largely expanding their networks to International horizon today is because the state saw them and only barked at them like the proverbial toothless bulldog.
On the other hand, the fact that those international terrorist organisations are funding and equipping Boko Haram today making them more complicated and sophisticated is because they had a bed of roses prepared for them by Boko Haram and its conspirators firmly rooted in our dear Nation. The seeming inability or perhaps nonchalance of the state to give security a heightened priority, enforce immigration laws and face them square and clear only serve in creating a safe haven for terrorists and its allies. This will turn the face and interest of other terrorist organisations either small or big either dreaded or unheard of to invest their loyalty and commitments to Boko Haram and then hone their bloody skills in Nigeria, using Nigerian helpless masses as specimen. This is a trend which if not quickly checked will soon make Nigeria the headquarters of terrorist organisations – God forbid.
The Nigerian state need to face squarely, ruthlessly and mercilessly the root of Boko Haram and perform a sweeping operation in all its known camps. (Perhaps Dokubo Asari’s 500,000 standing Ijaw army will be handy here) This will severe whatever network Boko Haram has with outside terrorist organisation wether it is of the CIA covert ops, Al-shabab, Al-qaeda, French government, Saudi Authority or former Camerounian president as is being varyingly alleged in the media, just sever the link, once there is no link, then no contact. Once there is no contact no operation. Once there is no operation no disaster and once there is no disaster peace and security at last!
Unfortunately, unlike what General Sani Abacha would have done or what General Buhari did to the maitatsine uprising, our dear GEJ does not have a heart for that. Don’t even start talking of human rights, these people are animals and even of the animals they are pigs. They deserve absolute annihilation after all the pains and agony they have meted on Nigerians, more so victims. Some will want to see that Abacha and Buhari were Military heads of state, but suffice us to say that the president military or civilian irrespective is the Commander in Chief of the Nation’s armed forces. Our president is yet to deploy fully and in absolute totality the power at his disposal to curb this ravaging menace. This is the more reason why sir GEJ should declare a state of emergency on himself because this carnage is far beyond his open display of unattractive charisma.
Am not making this call out of any form of malice or bigotry maybe out of sentiments and my sentiment is the very helpless Nigerians at the receiving end. My brothers, my sisters, my people, maybe GEJ has actually tried, maybe he is putting in a relentless effort, maybe he is actually doing ALL his best, unfortunately his best is not good enough. The more he keeps trying and re trying his “best”, the more we keep losing innocent souls pitiably, the deeper Nigeria gets into this and the more disastrous it is for our Nation. This is too much for us to take and too embarrassing for Nigeria as a Nation. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan should please declare a state of emergency on himself not because he is incompetent but because he has tried and has failed, is still trying and is still failing that is why he needs to shift aside for the appointment of a more competent, widely endorsed capable person to come in, tackle the situation within a given time and vacate the seat back for GEJ to continue if he must. Failure is not a vice GEJ shouldn’t be ashamed of admitting failure if he truly has the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians at heart. This is no longer about ego, this is no longer about prestige, this is no longer about power mongering/tussle this is about our people dying like droves of ants and who will help us out of the situation. It might smack of pessimism, but as it is, definitely not GEJ. Yes, I might not be talking of by the book state of emergency to hell with that as long as the blood of the innocent is being spilled by the book. It is extremely necessary to do things by the book but definitely not where GEJ is involved. Yes am crazy! And I will continue to be crazy as long as the blood of thousands of innocent Nigerians continue spill over our land like a ceaseless ocean surge. We have gone through a lot, we have seen a lot, we have died a lot, we have had to deal with a lot of inhuman damages, therefore, I have now reached a stage in my life where I don’t care about how, who or what brings an end to this hemorrhage so long it doesn’t have a direct consequence on the Nigerian masses. As for the ruling class, it is their vow; they should be ready to sacrifice whatever it takes to put an end to this disastrous calamity whether by their wealth, power or even life!
I read recently with utmost dismay some series of tweets by Reno Omokri the presidents special adviser on new media justifying why his boss would not resign using an event that happened during the reign of Margret Thatcher when she held sway as British PM, pointing that “nobody called for her resignation” Sir Omokri, yes nobody called for her to resign and she didn’t. The difference is that Nigerians are calling for GEJ to resign. I like to think that if she was called to resign she wouldn’t even have the guts to cling on because she knows what it means to insult the sensitivity and feelings of the same people she was meant to serve. Secondly “in the history of the world no one resigns because of terrorism” you defended. Well, ours is terrorism, calamity and disaster combined if your master cannot handle it let him get out! By the way a PM somewhere in Korea resigned due to a ferry disaster he might not necessarily even know how and when it set sail. Additionally those who never resigned because of terrorism dealt with it in no time. When an insurgency lasts for more than 24hrs then its a big blow, a mighty shame to the commander in chief in charge. Getting to 5yrs with GEJ at the helm did he deal with it? Nowhere in the world would such insensitivity linger. Thirdly, I know you are insensitive especially where you tried to get political scores with BH operations, but please borrow some conscience for a while, is it fair to Nigeria and Nigerians, victims and bereaved, those in perpetual pain and agony for you to liken something that happened sometimes back, somewhere under a different circumstances as basis for the insensitivity of the nations leadership concerning what we are made to go through day and night for years in this Nation? Haba mana! Grow up now. Besides, nobody is categorically theorizing that his resignation will put an end to this insurgency. The call is of common sense “deal with it if you can, resign if you can’t!” and there is nothing in his actions that even suggest he MIGHT be able to handle it so why clinging on to his selfish interest at the expense of perpetual lost of lives and properties?
The world is now mobilising at our doorstep, doing all they can to #BringBackOurGirls. We now see GEJ running around like he has been on his oars right from the word go. This was the same government that acted oblivious until social media brought the attention of the world on the issue before our government could even raise an eyebrow. Thank God we can see some actions now though, but it particularly beats me that about 20,000 troops are allegedly combing the Sambisa and Dokubo Asari is there preserving his 500,000 standing Ijaw army for electoral violence when they would have been handy in a forest allegedly bigger than Lagos. Meanwhile, all the efforts seem to be geared towards #BringBackOurGirls but we do not want you to only #BringBackOurGirls we desperately need Boko Haram to be written off straight into the pages of history forever. By the way, all these foreign assistance -especially of America – does it come without a price? Anyway since you are already here, first save our souls, then come to the point..
