Funsho Williams: The Governor Lagos State Never Had By Eneh John
As the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) prepares for its guber primaries on monday,December 8,2014, I write in honour of one of PDP’s finest aspirants whose aspiration never saw the light of the day.
Assassinated on July 27,2006, Funsho Williams, a Nigerian civil servant and politician, represented hope for Lagosians and the future of Nigerian politics.he attended the St. Paul’s Catholic school at Ebute Metta and later St Gregory’s College, Lagos. In 1968 he started at the University of Lagos, where he bagged a degree in civil engineering. He then went on to attend the New Jersey Institute of Technology for his Master’s degree.
Williams had stood twice before in the Lagos State Governorship (Gubernatorial) election. At the time of his death he was hoping to be nominated as the PDP Gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State. He had vowed to wrest control of the wealthy state from the Alliance for Democracy Party. But his body was found dead in his home.
Today, in memory of my very respected politician, Engineer Funsho Williams, who would have helped the PDP win Lagos State. But who will the Party present that will be widely accepted by Lagosians like Williams?
As the party slug it out tomorrow in the guber primaries nationwide, it is in honour of this man that I write and wish the party well.
Men like Funsho Williams holds a place in our Nation’s history and in my archives, he remain my HERO.
A tribute to the Governor Lagos State never had.May your soul continually find rest and that the party you died for find peace.
A REPUTATION FOUNDED ON INTEGRITY MUST BE NURTURED BY TRUTH.
