Friendly Environment Key to Economic Development, Says Uwajumogu
The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has identified promotion of friendly environment as an indispensable factor in the enhancement of economic development of the people.
Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, who was interacting with Journalists in Owerri, last weekend, disclosed that the present economic status of the Okigwe zone of the state would improve before the next four years, as solid economic and developmental foundation have been laid by the present administration in the state to touch the lives of Imo citizens through the implementation of people-oriented policies and laws passed by the Imo state House of Assembly, while making case for the people of the zone to ensure that people who really share in this vision of developing the zone and state are elected in the forthcoming general elections in the area.
The Speaker, who also acknowledged the efforts of the state government in resuscitating the hitherto moribund industries located in the zone to improve the economic development of the area and enhance the employment of youths of the zone, said that the attraction of three higher institutions, construction of rural roads network, hospitals, modern markets, creation of new cities, beautification of Okigwe main town and local government council, as well as improving the living conditions of the populace were some of the efforts made to create friendly environment for the economic prosperity of the zone.
According to him, “Okigwe zone of the state has moved some steps forward because we have succeeded in laying a stronger foundation for the prosperity of the people, which would help the economy of the zone and the people to thrive effectively. Furthermore, that we were able to sustain this vision of touching the lives of people of the zone through various laws passed by the state Assembly and programmes of the state government, is simply because there is a government which strives to perform its duties creditably”.
The Speaker identified sustainable energy, dredging of the famous Imo river that cut across the six council areas, youths and women empowerment, attraction of federal presence such as roads, security and the re-introduction of rice farming and massive production of other agricultural products as some of the key issues which are primary in his agenda for seeking to represent the zone at the senate.
The Speaker further noted that the State House of Assembly, in its quest to serve the people were also instrumental to the provision of a conducive environment to guarantee good governance, as well as optimum economic performance, through the enactment of laws, motions and performance of its over sight functions which have fare reaching effects on the welfare of the people.
Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, also commended the security agencies in the state in their dogged effort, which he said has helped in maintaining this administration’s vision of ensuring a sustainable crime-free peaceful state, while urging politicians, as well as youths in the state to help government maintain the current statusquo, as the electioneering campaigns are set to commence, because the state government do not need the distractions associated with electoral violence which could be a cog in its wheel of economic development of the people.
