The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has further declared a national disaster in Adamawa, Taraba, Rivers, Kebbi and Bayelsa following “devastating flood that ravaged the states.”
This has brought to 9 the number of states under national disaster caused by the flood devastation.
The other are Niger, Kogi, Anambra and Delta.
A statement by the head of media and public relations, Sani Datti on Thursdday says with the addition of the 5 states, the scope and the needs for response has increased and therefore solicited for more support from stakeholders.
The Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency had said rising water levels would be higher than those recorded in 2012.
The agencies have warned that 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states will be seriously affected by severe flooding.
