FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup: Nigeria Lose to Germany
Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s team, the Falconets, have failed in their attempt to conquer the world as they lost 1-0 to their German counterparts in the finals of the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup which took place early Monday morning in Montreal’s Olympic Stadium in Canada.
Although, statistics showed that the Falconets had more possession and indeed attempts at goal than their German counterparts, they however failed to convert the chances to their glory.
They were also denied a goal by the centre referee five minutes to the end of the match as the assistant referee’s flag a ball in the net for supposedly offside.
This took them to the extra time until the German danger forward Petermann found a crucial goal from the six yards box to give the Germans a record third time FIFA U20 Women’s trophy.
It was the same German side that denied Nigeria a chance to clinch the trophy four years ago.
Incidentally, Germany also recently won the Senior men’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
