FG Tasks Journalists On Professionalism
Minister of Information and cultural, Alhaji Lai Mohammed wants journalists to be critical of their role in ensuring a peaceful society by exhibiting high level professionalism towards a credible 2019 general elections.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this in his message to the opening of the sixth triennial delegate’s conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abeokuta.
The theme for the conference is “Media, Hate Speeches And 2019 General Elections in Nigeria: a Democratic Participant or Democratized Press.”
The triennial delegate conference of members of the Nigeria Union of journalists enables Men of the Pen Profession across the Country to converge again in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital venue of the event to chart the way forward for the journalism profession.
In his Address, the Minister of Information and Culture, represented by a director in the ministry, Mrs Omolara Esan described the theme of conference as apt, noting that Hate Speeches and fake news were highly destructive and must always be avoided to prevent rancor and clashes within the society.
Also speaking Governor of Ogun State, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga noted that the government is committed to an independence and Unbiased electoral system calling on journalists to collaborate with government so as to have credible General Elections come 2019.
