FG Approves N176 Billion For Additional Work On Lagos-Ibadan Road
The Federal Executive Council has approved contract for the rehabilitation of the second phase of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the cost of N176.503 billion.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, stated this after Wednesday’s cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Fashola said the contract for the 84km-section, awarded to Messrs Reynolds Construction Company, RCC, at N96billion initially was revised by N80.199billion to take the total cost to N176.503billion.
“The major component is the change of the type of bitumen, the polymer modified bitumen, the swamps that have been encountered, the depth of the design for the road, which is 1100mm, roughly 43inches of reconstruction from base. As you might know the road is being expanded from two to three lanes on both sides,” the Minister explained.
He said toll plazas and services would also be constructed on the roads, pointing out that these were to accommodate changes that have taken place when the road was constructed, including universities, places of worship and businesses.
