False Asset Declaration: Saraki Returns To CCT Feb 6
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, will be back at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for his trial in the False Asset Declaration charges brought against him by the federal government.
Recall that the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, had on December 12, voided 15-count charge from the 18 brought against him by the federal government, and ordered him to defend himself from the remaining three.
Meanwhile, the CCT under the chairmanship of Mr. Danladi Yakubu Umar, had issued hearing notices to both Saraki and federal government to appear before it on February 6, 2018, to take a common ground.
In a ruling delivered on June 13, 2017 the CCT boss, Danladi Umar, had agreed with Saraki that prima facie case was not made against him and that the entire 12-count charge bordering on false declaration of asset charges which were increased to 18 due to amendment effected by the complainant were based on hearsay evidence and consequently discharged and acquitted the defendant.
