Explosion Rocks Rivers State Deputy Governor’s Office in Portharcout

The political crisis rocking Rivers State took a more deadly turn on Tuesday as materials believed to be dynamites planted at the office of the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru exploded in the early hours of today.

The explosion which affected the administrative block of the office complex left the deputy governor unhurt, but part of the administrative building destroyed.

There was no official statement, but sources at the Government House assured that an official statement will be issued after Governor Chibuike Amaechi had inspected the scene.

In a similar circumstance,  the fire that engulfed the old section of the Mile One Rumuoji Market today may have been caused by an explosive device thrown into the stores in the market.

Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, the state Commissioner of Information and Communications, said that arson was not ruled out in the burning of the market as explosions were heard in some parts of the state capital the previous night.
