Ekiti: Sad, Fayemi’s Success Is Fayose’s Headache By Maxwell Adegbenro
Various analysts and journalists have sought deeper about Ekiti politics.
It though seem the last have not been heard of Ekiti politricks since the rancour over alleged attempt not to swear in the new Governor has been laid to rest on October 16. A new dawn of life dedicated to the fulfilment of opportunities and electoral promises is expected to begin rolls of action.
The crowd at the stadium was a remedial that a strange fellow has taken over power from former Governor, Kayode Fayemi whose contribution to our democracy had received international honor and applause.
Governor Fayemi is widely seen as an elitist leader. He was a Governor that won’t dole out state financial resources to cater for cabal or tolerate stomach itching demands.
Apparently, this is not the first time Ekiti will be in the chemistry news over unpopular issue. For the past 10 years, the state has been witnessing political unrest. From news of impeachment, poultry scam, deadlock of emerging two Governors which led to state of emergency declared by former President Obasanjo.
Since then, however, there has not been any time business of governance mean anything to opportunist. The only time stability restores itself was the affirmative 4years administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi.
Theatrical Nigerian Politician. Each time spent in office or corridor of power is often seen as means to an end of struggles. Instead of damning every hitch of consequences at attaining the full exploration of the mandate invested in their care they go head nut, soothsaying the people to buying time away from what Political analyst called “Peoples Need” and look deeper to giving excuses for failure.
This is not a new behavioural contempt for public officers that was condemned by their own people. It brings to fore, the justification for the en-spirited and overwhelming bulk of votes recorded in accord that see every man’s choice failing before time.
The last Governor-ship Election in Ekiti is no big paltry exemption of states with such huge worries.
Various institutions, organisations, individuals, the major work force that makes the land of honour worked and never hide support for the candidates of their choice till the result was announced June 22, 2014. Contending throes, rivalry libido were exchanged. The three contending candidates almost ran out of breath campaigning. At last, the party with lesser man power, electoral clout going by antecedents, but with federal backing emerged victoriously.
That is a long shot point that election in Nigeria are not won basically by bucket full of promises and assessment. All that is required is pretence to feel the pain of average Nigerians, speak their common language. As a matter of fact you don’t need rancid spending on jersey and banners. Donors will make your campaign office a big store of incentives.
You may wish to sell for meagre. You are loved already, your people will buy since its part of what validate the affection. All these are what makes the last election. Yes, I was on field through out to also know that it is not in the number of towns, villages and community visited during campaigns that matters. Ofcourse, those that have not been affected by you directly or indirectly could also spend hours under the scorching sun voting for you. If not, candidate of All Progressive Congress APC and former Governor Kayode Fayemi will have been every ones take home. He was almost certain of his grass root ideas of reaching to his people. Acting and telling the electorate what they need to hear which boils on what they should expect for the next term.
Believe me, this didn’t start there. Dr Kayode Fayemi, a proud product of elitist background didn’t know he has erred the commoners during his first 4years stint for not believing in the rationale of stomach infrastructure.
Poor him, he didn’t forget to bury his belief before coming into politics. He soon forgot that in Politics, there is a standard every Nigerian politician must sustain to thrive. There, you can earn the people trust and that street ‘baba ko pe” may last to dust.
Dr Kayode Fayemi in his wider exponential beliefs was beclouded by the desire to develop the state. Providing what the people deserve and not what they need. The sentiments of “agbajowo” didn’t work for him for many reasons known to people that voted against him.
Now speaking of leadership; the crux of criticism changed overnight. One would have expected the people to began a more finite and more terse “Ore mekunu” relationship with the new Governor. One would have imagine the lead way to the suppose paradise on earth that Fayose advocated through his online warlords.
I mean the beginning of a specific autumn to proving his critics wrong that he’s come to power to do the needful and silence critics that sees him as ungrateful locust that was given a second chance in a party that chased him out in dark with cudgels, rods and curse.
Nolstagia I remember a fellow veteran in Ekiti Politics describing Fayose as it then was as “regrettable sand that replaces Gold”. That is the kind of politics our democratic setting encourages, and mostly under PDP tutelage where every thing under the confine of umbrella goes.
If not, the defection of Speaker of House Of Representative Aminu Tambuwal won’t be greeted with innuendos of resignation. When the wannabe in PDP are mostly aware of Gov Olusegun Mimiko defections from Labour Party to PDP is still deepen by crisis.
Its been two weeks duration in office for Gov Ayodele Fayose, perhaps the “Oshokomole” have forgotten his people are expecting much they think a Doctorate holder can not offer but by vested interest a controversial ND holder can, and will.
The first two weeks of Fayose in office has only open can of worry on the people. He has spent most of his ugly years criticising the former governor till dead end and he resume to same shame.
As if denigrating the highest position in the land isn’t enough. Gov Fayose has paid more attention since assuming office to the success story of his predecessor than the bulk of duty he is expected to discharge. How do I mean?
How well can anyone explain the exchanges of Oke Ayoba of 2.2billion turned 3.3billion, the bed of 2million turned 50million.
The unending story that never existed of purported helicopter. I watched and shake my head in dismay watching his media aide addressing the world in his chosen words.
Feeding the people with what only existed in the context of their imagination. Another issue was the non payment of salary of workers. Before the official expiration of Fayemi tenure in office. He was owing teachers August and September,
Civil servants September.
Whose fault? The delay in federal share of allocation caused more than enough damage already. Some projects were rushed not to be left abandoned which include the Ire Burnt Brick Factory.
Fayose in quick ill-fated attitude of settling down in office awarded 200million contract for the re-painting and refurbishing of Governors office to his own brother on direct labour. Licking his own wounds.
Accusing Fayemi of living an expensive life investing billions of naira in Govt house project he is not benefiting from. Sheer hypocrisy!
Of credible note, the noise about liberating Ekiti people with expensive jamboree started from him. We won’t be quick to forget his skyline helicopter wailing in the sky. The hummer jeeps, Chrysler convertible and Mercedez benz used to deceiving the people.
Its time Governor Fayose resume and face this business of governance. Let’s hope that his intensively listening capacity to these potentially useful socio-economic empowerment ideas for implementation is ignited in time and he stops making heavy noise while appreciating the good efforts of his predecessor.
Otherwise, the whole joy about his return to power may be rested too soon. Lest we forget, Ekiti have not heard the last about the June 21 election.
The greatest threat to the attainment of sustainable developmental projects in Ekiti clime is this perpetual lack of continuity in governance’project implementation. It’s one regime starts it, another regime scraps it debacle. The whole lot scarce resources would be criminally wasted politicising dead issues and successfully living in Fayemi’s paradise.
Get to work, Mr Governor!
