Dusk to Dawn Curfew Imposed on Okene, As Gunmen Attack Mosque, Kill Two Soldiers
A dusk to dawn curfew has been imposed on Okene following the series of violent attacks that occured in the commercial town.
Gunmen had on monday night attacked a Deeper Life Church in the Otite area of town killing no less than 17 persons and scores of others injured. As if that was not enough, another violence tuesday evening surfaced at Okene Central Mosque as gunmen reportedly attacked muslim worshipers at the mosque located directly behind the Local Govt secretariat.
Abusidiqu.com learnt that the attack on the mosque today was launched by a gang of gunmen who drove a Hilux Jeep to the Central Mosque by the Okene Local Government Council Secretariat during the 4pm Tafsir muslim programme and rained bullets on those inside the mosque during which the two soldiers among those on guard at the mosque and another person were killed.
After achieving their aim, the gunmen were still able to escape in their hilux jeep before other security agents arrived the scene for reinforcement. Meanwhile, all major roads in the city have been cordoned off by heavily armed soldiers. Kogi state police commissioner, Muhammed Katsina confirmed the incident
Announcing the imposition of the curfew, the state Governor, Captain Idris Wada a state broadcast announced that movement has now been restricted between 6 am and 6pm untill further notice.
In the same vein, the Inspector General of Police(IGP), Mohammed Abubakar has ordered the immediate deployment of additional units of mobile policemen from squadrons outside Kogi to beef up the security arrangement in the state. This is in addition to ordering a 24 hour surveillance of all places of worship and other vulnerable areas in the state
