Dogara Preaches Peace At Tor Tiv’s Funeral… Says Late Monarch Was A Rare Gem
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has called on all Nigerians to embrace the culture of peace and philanthropy.
Dogara made the call on Thursday in Gboko, Benue state, at the funeral of the late paramount ruler of Tiv Land, His Royal Majesty, Alfred Akawe Torkula IV, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan.
The Speaker, who extoled the virtues of the late revered monarch, described him as a man of peace and a patriot whose reign brought unprecedented development to the Tiv nation.
“We have lost a rare gem and a man of vision whose public service career prepared him ahead of others and propelled him to succeed as Tor Tiv, We will miss him and the rich and wide wealth of wisdom he garnered”, he said.
“The dead man is never honoured by words of ovation. We can praise him to the highest heavens but it won’t make any meaning to him; the only way to honour him is to replicate his good deeds,” the Speaker admonished.
“Families, Benue state and Nigeria need peace and we can only honour him if we continue with peace building and philanthropy which are the legacies he left behind.”
The Speaker said late Torkula belongs to the special class of famous people, and that “they are honoured by the works and good deeds that survive them which are not inscribed on any tomb but written in the hearts and minds of the people they left behind.”
