Dogara Congratulates New NBA President Mahmud
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, has urged the newly elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmud, SAN, to use his new position to restore and defend the integrity of the legal profession in Nigeria.
Congratulating Mahmud in a press statement issued by the Special Adviser to the speaker on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Turaki Hassan, the speaker implored Mahmud to display good sportsmanship by carrying along everyone in the NBA, irrespective of whether they supported or opposed his emergence as president of the association.
Dogara noted that the integrity of the legal profession needs to be restored to its glory days, adding that if the NBA president-elect implements his campaign of regulation, representation, re-engineering and public interest, there will be a visible change in the quality of law practice as well as public perception in Nigeria.
The speaker also congratulated other elected executives, urging them to unite and work as one body if their goals to make a difference in the law profession is to be achieved.
Mahmud, a former commissioner of Justice in Kano State, specialised in Company and Labour Relations Law and is a former chairman of the Kano chapter of the NBA.
