In Defence of Odudu Ukpanah…Nigerians Demand His Release by Eneh John
In the words of Wole Soyinka,” The fear of criticism,is a threat to freedom.” As Nigerians join in the struggle to demand for the release of Odudu Ukpanah, just as I told Dino Melaye last week that,”it will be a disservice to political activism if I fail to congratulate him on his winning the APC senate primaries in Kogi state,” I reiterate my points today that I will murder activism if I keep silence in the struggle for Odudu’s release.
As I join in drumming not only social network support, but reaching out to the Ukpanahs’ to call on the Akwa Ibom state Judiciary to expedite actions on the release of this innocent fellow. It baffles me as I watch and follow the series of events that has led to the incarceration of Odudu. Pertinent questions that beg for answers today are as follows: Who killed Engineer Ukpanah? Odudu’s father? How possible could Odudu who is an M.sc holder in Oil and Gas murder his father for a cheap two (2)million naira? Why have there been series of adjournments in the case since it first came up in the court? Why has Odudu been denied bail for seven months now? Today, we run to the judiciary to seek for justice and we demand that justice be served. It is disheartening that such trump up charges could be laid on him. I have refused to be carried away with Odudu’s credentials, but its glaring for all to see that Odudu has to be released unconditionally.
In the words of Goodluck Jonathan,” even the blind can see.” We find ourselves in a position where we no longer seek to find the killers of Engineer Ukpanah, but to seek for the release of his only son. How are the mighty falling. Who are the “powers that be” that has continually ordered for the continuous. Imprisonment of Odudu Ukpanah? As the latin words go, “vox populi, vox Dei,” meaning “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” it is our collective demand that whoever is holding back justice in Odudu’s case should let it go.
As the onslaught to press for his release continues, I enjoin my friends, professional colleagues, human rights activists, well meaning Nigerians to join the campaign for Odudu’s release.let us join in defence of this young man who has been unjustly detained by oppressors of justice. Let your voice be heard. Be a volunteer for the ?#?releaseOduduukpanah campaign. God bless the defenders of truth and justice.
