Dame Patience Meet Rivers Lawmakers, Vows To Impeach Governor Amaechi
The political battle between the Presidency and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, with the former alleged to be plotting the impeachment of the Governor took a new twist yesterday as the first lady, Dame has commence moves to have the governor removed from office.
Although the first lady was said to be in Port-Harcourt to attend the wedding of one of the five anti-Amaechi legislators in the State House of Assembly, Abusidiqu.com gathered that her visit to the garden city was more of a move to ensure that the State House of Assembly members are mobilised to ensure Governor Amaechi’s impeachment from office and has vowed not to leave the Garden City until the governor is finally removed from office.
The first lady we gathered had already met with some of the lawmakers in an alleged move to start the plot to hasten the impeachment process.
While the venue of the meeting was not known as at the time of this report, the first lady is reported to have moved into a newly-built mansion in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, where she is expected to spend 11 days.
Dame Patience has earlier lambasted the Governor at a public function saying Port Harcourt, the state capital, has lost its attraction during the governor’s reign.
“During the time of Chief Rufus Ada-George and Dr. Peter Odili as governors, everybody wanted to come to Port Harcourt, which was called the Garden City, but I pray that it will return to what it used to be, so that we and our children can be proud of Port Harcourt,” she said at the wedding reception.
Amaechi’s sin against the Presidency is because the name of the governor was being penciled down as a possible vice presidential candidate on a ticket that would parade a Northerner as the presidential candidate to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
This move, the President sees as an affront, as Amaechi being a South-South man, would be denying the region of a second shot at the Presidency.
The political differences between the two got to its peak when the Presidency allegedly started mobilising against Amaechi’s bid for a second term shot at the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) chairmanship position. The NGF’s chairmanship election led to the factional division amongst the governors, creating a faction led by Amaechi and another being led by Governor Jang of Plateau State.
The drama continued with the NGF’s crisis, which eventually led to the suspension of Governor Amaechi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
