Cross River Governor, Liyel Omoke Returns to Nigeria
Former Minister of Information, John Odey, reportedly told Premium Times a short while ago that the Governor arrived Lagos from the United States this evening and is being expected to arrive Calabar, the capital city of Cross River State on Saturday after being absent from the state for about three months.
“I can confirm that the governor has returned,” Mr. Odey, one of Mr. Imoke’s closest political associates, said with glee. “We are all here waiting to receive him. We have been in touch with him while he was undergoing treatment. But we are more than excited to have him back.”
The governor’s absence from the state was noticed early December, when he was speculated to have died of an unknown ailment, but debunking the speculation, the state Commissioner for Information, Akin Ricketts, had on December 15 issued a statement that the governor is alive and recuperating in a hospital abroad.
Mr. Rickett said the governor officially wrote to the state House of Assembly early December transferring power to his deputy, Efiok Cobham, to enable him proceed on a two-month accumulated leave.
