Enyeama Ready To Return To National Team, Says Super Eagles Coach Rohr

Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, has hinted the return of former Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, to the national team.

Rohr stated this at a pre-match news conference ahead of Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The match will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Rohr said he had spoken with Enyeama and the goalkeeper was ready to come back to the Super Eagles.

“The past is the past but now he is injured. He has to win the fight against injury,” Rohr said.

Enyeama quit the national team in 2015 following a disagreement with the former national team coach, Sunday Oliseh.

Rohr said he has a good team to face the Lions but his challenge was with the goalkeeper position.

The Franco-German coach said Ikechukwu Ezenwa would be in goal on Friday due to injury sustained by two other goalkeepers in the team.

He added: “The list of players makes the difference, not so young, more of experienced players. We already have six points. All the players are in high spirit.

“We know that we have a good team, we are ready to make the difference. We have all the confidence to beat the Indomitable Lions here in Uyo.”

Mayweather Finishes McGregor By Way Of Technical Knockout In 10th Round

A ruthless Floyd Mayweather scored a 10th round technical knockout over mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor on Saturday, cementing his legacy as one of boxing’s all-time greats.

McGregor, making his professional boxing debut, had boasted he would knock out the 40-year-old American early but his lack of ring savvy betrayed him as Mayweather improved to 50-0 to surpass heavyweight great Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record for most wins without a loss or draw.

As promised, McGregor came out full of fury and menace but Mayweather, long regarded as the finest defensive fighter to step into the ring, left few openings and used the first three rounds to feel out his opponent.

By the fourth round Mayweather went on the attack and started landing blow after blow against a suddenly desperate McGregor who was bravely hanging on while clutching and grabbing the American.

In the 10th, Mayweather moved in for kill pinning a visibly fatigued McGregor against the ropes and landing a flurry of punches when the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

Breaking: England Captain Wayne Rooney Quits International Football

Wayne Rooney has announced his retirement from international football with immediate effect, ending his reign as England captain after holding talks with manager Gareth Southgate.

The 31-year-old, who joined Everton from Manchester United in the summer after 13 years at Old Trafford, was dropped from Southgate’s latest squad for the summer fixtures against Scotland and France in June.

Rooney retires as England’s greatest ever goalscorer, netting 53 times in 119 appearances, which also makes him the second-highest capped player for the country behind former goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s record of 125 caps.

Rooney issued a statement to Press Association to confirm his retirement, with the Everton striker saying: “It was great that Gareth Southgate called me this week to tell me he wanted me back in the England squad for the upcoming matches. I really appreciated that.

“However, having already thought long and hard, I told Gareth that I had now decided to retire for good from international football.

“It is a really tough decision and one I have discussed with my family, my manager at Everton and those closest to me.

“Playing for England has always been special to me. Every time I was selected as a player or captain was a real privilege and I thank everyone who helped me.

“But I believe now is the time to bow out.

“Hopefully the exciting players Gareth is bringing through can take that ambition further and I hope everyone will get behind the team.

“One day the dream will come true and I look forward to being there as a fan – or in any capacity.”

Ronaldo Suspended For Five Games

Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for five games after he was sent off in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup first leg on Sunday.

He was given a one-match ban for being shown two yellow cards and a further four for pushing the referee in the back after he had been sent off.

The bookings at the Nou Camp were for taking off his shirt to celebrate his goal to make it 2-1 and for a dive.

He will miss Wednesday’s second leg.

Ronaldo, 32, will have 10 days to appeal.

The Portugal international will be able to play in the Champions League but will not return to domestic action until 20 September against Real Betis.

Madrid had already signalled their intent to appeal against Ronaldo’s second yellow card shown for diving eight minutes from time when he went down inside the area under pressure from Samuel Umtiti.

“Ronaldo’s sending-off annoys me because even if it is not a penalty, the card is harsh,” said Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane after the game. “We will see if we can do something so that he is available on Wednesday.”
