BMO Hails Buhari’s Directive On Campaign Funds, Upbraids Atiku For Corrupt Enrichment

President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to his ministers not to use public funds for his re-election campaign is a novel act of patriotism and altruism in the history of electioneering  in Nigeria.

Reviewing the outcome of the last federal executive council meeting in Abuja, the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) noted that the presidential directive signified the unmatched integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari on the use of public funds, as against past leaders who looked the other way while public funds were used to fund political campaigns.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, the group said it is happy that President Muhammadu Buhari advised his cabinet members to use text messages and multimedia messages to canvass for votes. “This shows his implicit faith in the ability of Nigerians to vote according to their conscience.

“His directive further proves that his administration’s commitment to the war against corruption is unequivocal and aimed at setting new standards in electioneering campaigns in Nigeria.

“President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to dip his hands in the public treasury to fund his campaign or share money to potential voters is a clear indication that things are turning around for better in Nigeria under his administration.

“We applaud President Muhammadu Buhari for leading by example and urge Nigerians to identify with his administration in its quest to set new standards and bequeath a country where corruption in elections is abhorred. This will not only strengthen our democracy but save the country from the usual practice of governments in power using public funds for partisan purposes”.

Also reacting to the allegation by the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar that the Buhari administration is using public funds for his presidential campaigns, the Buhari Media Organisation described the allegation as a lie from the pit of hell reiterating that “President Buhari remains unscathed as far as utilisation of public funds is concerned. On the contrary, Nigerians cannot forget in a hurry how Atiku took advantage of his office of vice president to set up the American University of Nigeria and gave a licence to them. As a Customs officer, he used his position to accumulate wealth by using proxy companies.

“We therefore insist that President Muhammadu Buhari is above board and cannot be compared with Atiku Abubakar whose tenure as vice president was used to accumulate wealth for himself, to the detriment of Nigerians”, the group added.

Buhari Administration’s Achievements Have Rattled Atiku, PDP – Minister

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the
massive achievements of the Buhari Administration have rattled the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji
Atiku Abubakar.

Reacting to the statement from Abubakar’s media aide, over the
widely-circulated testimony series of the Federal Ministry of
Information and Culture to showcase the Administration’s achievements,
the Minister said the action of the PDP candidate amounts to an
acknowledgement of the Administration’s impressive achievements.

He dismissed as ‘acute paranoia’ the allegation by the former Vice
President that the APC-led federal government is using state resources
for electioneering campaign.

Alhaji Mohammed however said, in a statement issued in Ilorin on
Friday, that it is up to those who made the accusation on the use of
state resources for electioneering campaign to prove it, in line with
the maxim that he who alleges must prove.

”In publicising the activities and achievements of the federal
government, the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture is only
carrying out its statutory role. Long before the elections, the
Ministry has used various platforms, including Town Hall Meetings, to
showcase the activities and achievements of the Administration.

”We understand that the PDP and the Atiku Campaign Organization have
been rattled by the achievements as well as the effectiveness of the
campaign to showcase them. We are sorry we can’t help them,” Alhaji
Mohammed said.

He however expressed surprise that the PDP that said the Buhari
Administration has not achieved anything has now turned around to
admit that the media is awash with video testimonies from Nigerians on
the Administration’s achievements.

2019: Abuja Benue Community Endorses APC Guber Candidate Emmanuel Jime

Benue indigenes resident in Abuja have endorsed the candidature of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for this year’s governorship election, Rt Hon Emmanuel Jime.

This was the outcome of a parley between Jime and the Benue indigenes at an event held in Abuja Wednesday.

The event which held at the NAF Conference Centre had in attendance hundreds of prominent Benue sons and daughters from different walks of life including retired senior military officers, public servant, elder statesman,  business men,  development experts, educationists, top politicians  and media professionals.

In his welcome remarks, Director General of the Jime-Ode 2019 Campaign Organisation, second republic Senator, Jacob Tilley Gyado, thanked everyone present for taking time out of their busy schedules to interact with the governorship hopeful.  He told guests present the APC cannot win the governorship contest in Benue without their support and appealed to them to use their influence to ensure victory for Jime and other APC candidates in the March 2 election.

Senator Gyado described Jime as a focused and thoroughbred achiever, who is modest and delivers on every responsibility he’s given.
He said Jime’s “Rt Hon” prefix was well earned as a result of his sterling legislative records, and not procured.

He told the Benue indigenes not to be swayed by the divisive rhetoric on herdsmen by incumbent Governor Samuel Ortom, assuring that one of the first projects the Jime administration would execute would be to revive the Ikyogen Cattle Ranch and draw the accruing economic benefits from that to the state.

In his speech, the governorship hopeful called for the support of all Benue people in the diaspora, promising that in him and his deputy, Sam Ode, Benue will have a Government House team to be proud of
He paid tributes to the APC governorship aspirants who sought the party ticket with him and thanked them for rallying around his candidacy.

Highlighting the grim situation in Benue today, the former member of the House of Representatives said  it was in the hands of Benue people yo halt the downward spiral being witnessed in the state.

He said “The issues that confront us in Benue are very well documented. Every Benue son has a role to play in getting the state out of the deprivation it faces. Benue is at a crossroads, torn between great potential and crass incompetence. At no time has there been so much devastation in Benue as is the case today. It’s never been this bad.  The people have never felt this hopeless. Our people’s hopes are modest and it’s easy to meet their hopes and expectations through honest and purposeful governance.”

Jime noted that Benue people are hardworking and satisfied with their little wages and income when paid, but expressed regret that it has become a huge tragedy that even this little income, especially for civil servants, is not assured under the current administration.

“People should not have to sell assets to get medication. Every Benue  child deserves a decent education. And when they get old, they deserve to retire with dignity and respect. Sadly this is not the case as we see today.”
He stressed further that although government can not solve all problems, it owed citizens a duty to set up the enabling environment for development and prosperity to thrive.

The candidate set out the six priority areas for his administration to be Security, economic prosperity, Education, Infrastructure and Urban Renewal, Healthcare Delivery, and Social Welfare.

He promised to prioritise capital expenditure over recurrent and develop strong public private partnerships as a major source of funding.
Jime lamented that even though total accruals to Benue State’s coffers since June 2015 were in excess of a whopping N402 billion,  the bulk of this amount had been frittered away by the current leadership.

He expressed regret over Benue’s level of indebtedness and said only public private partnerships would support the scale of economic revival required.

The candidate promised to fix the huge fraud around the wage bill, which stood at a little over N3bn at the inception of the current administration, but had ballooned to over N7bn, with no evidence of employments, even as some people had either retired or had been lost to death, some die to the inability to meet basic health needs as a result of non-payment of salaries,  and assured that he will connect Benue back to the federal centre if elected.
Other pledges he made included a dissolution of the State and Local Government Joint Account and full adherence to the TSA to remove opaqueness from government finances.

“The choice to entrench Benue into greatness is in your hands. Benue is in dire straits, but the darkest part of night is the period before dawn. The sun will rise on us soon. Let’s not be discouraged. I present myself as the last option to you. Use me,” he said.

Guests present got a chance to ask questions and make suggestions on how best to move the state out of its current situation. Some of those who participated nclude Dr Yima Sen, a top-notch academic and development expert, former NIA national president, Arc Philip Iortyer, Chair of the NHIS Board Chief Mrs Entanty ifene and Hon Titus Zam, a former Special Assistant to the Benue State Government on Local Government Affairs.

President Buhari Urges Ogun Electorates To Reject APM, Declares Support For APC Candidates

In what appeared to be a message directed at Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his Imo state counterpart, Rochas Okorocha over their anti-party activities and disloyalty to party supremacy, President Muhammadu Buhari has lambasted the actions of some APC governors who single-handedly choose who to contest all elective positions in their states without carrying along all stakeholders.

President Buhari made this known in a television interview aired on Arise TV. The interview was aired for over one hour and the President made his opinion known over some splinter parties from the APC who have come to adopt him. He described their adoption as one based selfish reasons.

Ilorin Stands Still As APC’s AbdulRahman Leads Pro-Buhari Rally

Tens thousands of Kwara APC members and supporters placed Ilorin on a lock down for hours on Thursday as the party’s governorship candidate AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led other candidates to mobilise voters ahead of the general election.

The rally saw thousands of locals lining the streets and mobbing the long motorcade and heavy trucks conveying the APC campaigners amid deafening shouts of O To Ge, the campaign slogan of the party which means ‘enough is enough’. The rally was also dominated by shouts of Sai Buhari.

The campaign train took off from Fate end of the capital city and criss-crossed densely populated areas like Pata market, Gambari,  Okelele,  Abayawo, Omoda and peaked at Pakata where the candidates took turns to address the masses.

“We are committed to end the tyranny in our state. O To Ge. We will ensure workers are paid their dues at the right time. A government that cannot account for trillions of naira of public funds cannot expect to be trusted again,” AbdulRazaq told the rally.

AbdulRazaq also laughed off a recent claim by Senate President that APC wants to make Kwara a part of the West,  dismissing it as the antic of drowning politicians hanging to any straw.

“If West means Tinubu, Bukola took Kwara to the west in 2015 when (Bola) Tinubu was leader of APC,” AbdulRazaq said.

“Their desperate attempt to incite the public against us has failed. Every student of history understands the role my father AGF AbdulRazaq SAN played in 1955 to convince the Willinks Commission on Minorities that Ilorin belonged to the northern region. Where was Saraki in those years?  Where is his sense of history?”

US Group Warns Against Voting Atiku, Says He Will Enrich Self, Cronies If He Wins

An America political risk consultancy firm, Eurasia Group has issued a clear warning to Nigerian voters against voting the opposition Peoples Democratic arty (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

According to the group, Atiku poses to enriching himself and his cronies if he wins the presidential elections holding on February 16.

He (Atiku) is “gerontocrat who would focus on enriching himself and his cronies, avoiding the difficult and politically unpopular tasks necessary for reform,” Eurasia Group said in the report published on December 7.

The group added that Atiku “also pose the risk of a return to an even more rent-seeking governing style.”

Alhaji Abubakar is considered by critics as a corrupt figure, a perception that dates from his time in Obasanjo’s administration when he allegedly accumulated significant holdings in oil and banking enterprises and built a sizeable real estate portfolio.

He and his fourth wife Jennifer Douglas, an American citizen, were allegedly indicted in 2010 in a 328-page American Senate committee report for transferring over $40 million “suspect funds” to America from offshore accounts between 2002 and 2008.

“Ms Douglas helped her husband bring over $40 million in suspect funds into the United States, including at least $1.7 million in bribe payments from Siemens AG, a German corporation, and over $38 million from little known offshore corporations, primarily LetsGo Ltd. Inc., Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., and Sima Holding Ltd,” the Carl Levin-led Permanent Subcommittee on Investigation said on page 173 of its report.

Although Abubakar has not visited the United States since he was indicted, he has maintained that he did nothing wrong.

We Didn’t Endorse Atiku For 2019, Says Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has denied endorsing Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election.

The deputy national publicity secretary of the organisation, Mr Chuks Ibegbu disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu at a media briefing to mark the second anniversary of the current executive of the organisation.

Ibegbu said that the clarification became necessary following misconceptions on the event of November 14, 2018 where some Igbo leaders endorsed the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar for presidency.

It would be recalled that some Igbo leaders had during a meeting in Enugu attended by Atiku and the national leaders of the PDP including the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki endorsed Atiku.

Ibegbu, however, clarified that the said endorsement was done by the friends of Atiku, adding that the organisation had not endorsed any particular candidate.

The deputy national publicity secretary said that the organisation needed to be circumspect, “as our children are in all the political parties.’

“It is erroneous to say that we endorsed Atiku. Ohanaeze Ndigbo did not endorse anybody. That meeting at Nike Lake Resort was organised by friends of Atiku.

“However, due to our peculiar circumstance in the country, we will identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria if voted into power,” he said.

He said that the organisation would soon meet to take a holistic position on the 2019 general elections.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo has been canvassing for our people to identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria.

“We still stand on that and in the next few days we shall meet to take a holistic position on the elections,” he said.

Ibegbu noted that within the two years in office of the Chief John Nwodo led Ohanaeze Ndigbo, “we have given our modest contribution by re-jigging Igbo leadership and issues concerning our people”.

He said that the current leadership of the organisation had built synergy with its affiliate groups with a view to achieving unity in the area.

He said that the dexterity and leadership acumen of Nwodo had positively affected the relationship between the organisation and other ethnic socio-cultural associations in the country.

“This has earned the president general an award as ‘Bridge Builder of the Nation’, which will be presented to him on January 17 by Daily Independent Newspapers,” Ibegbu said.

Buhari-Osinbajo Will Be Re-Elected – Jesusina

chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alimosho has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be re-elected during this year’s general election.

Omotola Jesusina, a member of the women wing in the biggest local government in Nigeria explained to journalists in Ikeja, Lagos that the achievement of the APC government in the last three years has been remarkable.

She said before now Nigerians used to queue at filling stations with kegs in their hands to buy fuel but that Buhari has ended that barbaric way of life.

“Before President Buhari came on board kegs and vehicles used to drag for fuel. In Alimosho, when they sell fuel for five kegs, they will sell for two vehicles, but those days are long gone.

“First they brought ‘Change’ and now they are taking us to the ‘Next Level’, Nigerians need to be patient.

“This government has done more for Nigerians than any other government since 1999. We can boast of a more reliable power supply, we can boast good roads like the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and we see the rail roads are coming.

She said the Social Investment Programmes has had huge impact in Alimosho especially the TraderMoni scheme.

“TraderMoni has been a success, come to Ikotun and Ejigbo market and you will hear the success story of the scheme. There is N-Power and the National Home Grown Feeding Programme which is coming to Lagos soon.

“We must also not forget that this government is doing more things with less income. How much is crude oil? But look at the infrastructure across the country.

Mrs Jesusina said the APC will also win by landslide in Lagos commending the choice of Babajide Sanwo-Olu. “If you look at the trajectory of Lagos, you will agree that it is a State that has been led by progressives and that is not about to change.

“Our national leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu began the work to put Lagos on the international map and Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola continued from where he left off.

“Of course, no one can deny the mind-blowing achievements and progress the State has made under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and I can assure Lagosians of more dividends of democracy under Sanwo-Olu.

She praised hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan who is leader of APC in Alimosho for doing a good job to galvanise leaders and members of the party.

“The party structure in Alimosho is solid and we are fully ready to ensure that both at the national and state level APC wins and by the grace of God nothing will change that,” she added.

2019 Polls: APC Deputy Spokesman, Nabena, Accuses Peter Obi Of Double Standard

The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi of double standards.

Nabena, in a statement on Wednesday, January 9, also accused the former Anambra state governor of alleged dirty deals while he was in office. He further challenged Obi to explain how his administration expended his security vote as governor.

The Bayelsa born APC chieftain alleged that the Atiku presidential campaign team and PDP have turned to the drug dealers in South Africa for financial assistance, “because their Dubai agenda has collapsed.”

Nabena said the former governor has been parading himself as free of corrupt acts in his eight years as governor of Anamra state, revealing that available record showed that Obi was collecting over N470 million Naira monthly as security vote (N220 million naira from local government and 250 million naira from the state FAC accounts).

He said: “Several sources have revealed how the PDP and Atiku/Obi cannot longer run big rallies for lack of funding but had to contact some drug dealers in South Africa for help.”

He added that the coming presidential election will be about the integrity of the candidates and their running-mates which he noted, “PDP presidential candidate, Atiku and his running-mate does not have.”

The APC chieftain said it is necessary for Nigerians to seriously beam their searchlight on all the presidential candidates and their running-mates, especially those who claim to have integrity like Peter Obi.

“Obi should explain his relationship with former military administrator, Governor Ibim Princewill and Colonel Earnest Kizito Attah of Cross River state whom he allegedly helped as a conduit to fleece Cross River state government thus contributing to the under development of the state,” he said.

Next Month Presidential Polls Nigeria’s Date With Destiny – Osinbajo

he February 16, 2019 Presidential election will be Nigeria’s date with destiny as it will determine whether the country will make progress or go back to the days of corruption and impunity, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

The Vice President stated this in Abuja on Tuesday when he addressed a cross-section of Nigerians at the “Drive 4 Buhari/Osinbajo Rally” – an initiative of the “I am Ready Campaign Group”, organized to mobilize support for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, “February 16, 2019 is our date! It is the date of our country with destiny; that is the date we will decide whether we want to go forward or we want to go backwards.

“All that President Buhari has tried to do in these past four years, is first of all, clean up the big mess that we met. The major problem of our country has always been corruption; stealing of the resources of the people. I have never heard it before, where a person after stealing your money says: “I am the one who can come back and help you”.

The “Drive 4 Buhari Osinbajo” Rally – one of the highpoints of Prof. Osinbajo’s Tuesday outings, started as early as 9 a.m. with thousands of volunteers within and around the FCT converging on the Eagle Square arena to register their support for the Buhari presidency.

The drive-through rally involved thousands of volunteers many of whom drove their cars and tricycles adorned with President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s posters from satellite towns of Gwagwalada, Zuba, Nyanya, Kuje and other suburbs of the FCT, through the various parts of the city to the Eagle Square, all indicating their support for Buhari’s re-election.

At the Eagle Square, thousands of admirers and supporters of Buhari and Osinbajo chanted victory songs to welcome the Vice President as he made a grand entrance into the arena for the final phase of the programme.

Also on ground to spice up the event were entertainers who danced and sang popular songs to the admiration of all.

Continuing, Prof. Osinbajo said the choice of whom to vote for in the coming elections should not be very difficult as President Buhari is renowned for his integrity, “even Buhari’s worst enemies know that he is an honest man, even the thieves know that he is an honest man.”

Speaking specifically about the programmes and projects executed by the Buhari-led Federal Government, the Vice President said the achievements recorded so far were as a result of prudent and transparent management of resources.

He said: “for the first time, our country is spending money on roads and railways. They have been talking about railways since, for the past 16 years, but we have just started building the Lagos – Kano railway now.

“We are earning less money but we are doing far more. We are also building the Itakpe – Warri railway and even the 2nd Niger Bridge. They commissioned the 2nd Niger Bridge before, but when they commissioned it, there was no design. Today, we have started to build the 2nd Niger Bridge.

“In every State in Nigeria, we are building a major road; we are going to complete the Lagos – Calabar railway, by the grace of God, Port Harcourt – Maiduguri is also going to be completed.”

In the Power Sector, Prof. Osinbajo said “after 16 years, 3000MW of power is all that we had, but today we are at 7000MW. But we have not even started yet, because we know that power is still a problem, so we are trying to solve the problem.”

He said the Federal Government in its determination to address the challenge had adopted measures to address issues of both generation and transmission.

“In Sabon Gari market, we have a separate solar power plant and many of the shops have power now. In Ariaria market in Abia, we have also done the same thing, we also did the same thing in Sura market in Lagos, and we also put power in Edaiken market in Benin.

“Very soon, our country will have enough power with the plan that we have, to provide power separately, only through the National Grid, but to provide power to the different parts of our country so that our country will have power”, the Vice President added.

Prof. Osinbajo assured Nigerians that “President Buhari has a plan, and he is an honest man, and he is making sure that he executes that plan”.

In a related development, the Vice President on Tuesday inaugurated the Buhari Media Centre; continued the Family Chat series, all in Gwarimpa and also interacted with artisans and traders at the UTC complex and the Tipper Garage market, all in the FCT.

At the UTC Plaza in Area 10 – a popular printing hub in the FCT, the Vice President paid a visit to artisans and traders, interacting with them on the activities and programmes of the Federal Government.

On arrival at the plaza, the Vice President was welcomed amidst cheers and dancing by the mammoth crowd.

Prof. Osinbajo interacted with some artisans and traders at the plaza, assuring them of a better Nigeria with President Buhari on the saddle beyond 2019.

Earlier in Gwarimpa, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo inaugurated the Buahri Media Centre in Abuja and had a brief interaction with Nigerians via a live Facebook interview on the activities and programmes of the Buhari administration.

He said: “there is no reason why young Nigerians can’t be trained and equipped for outsourced jobs from big technology firms around the world to troubleshoot and handle customer care questions and be paid by those global tech firms. This explains the Federal Government’s push towards technology.”

The Vice President emphasized that the business of improving Nigeria’s economy is not just by talking and wondered why “those trying to come back did nothing, for example, to fix the Lagos-Ibadan expressway or the Second Niger Bridge for which there was not even a design until the Buhari presidency did it”.

He also made an unscheduled stop at the Tipper Garage Market in Gwarimpa where he interacted briefly with traders, shoppers and people in the market, many of whom received him with cheers and singing in what was an exciting atmosphere.
