NJ Ayuk’s Big Barrels Leads The Way Forward To Africa Oil And Gas 2.0

As an exemplary African entrepreneur, NJ Ayuk has intimately witnessed the transformative impact of the oil and gas industry on the continent, being an active player in building countries, shaping economies and its societies. The launch of, Big Barrels: African Oil and Gas and the Quest for Prosperity, co-written with João Marques, is long awaited; confronting the misinterpreted view that energy-rich countries undeniably suffer from and often victimized by the effects of the ‘resource curse’. The reality, the book argues, could not be further from it.

Big Barrels reads in the introduction: “The evidence makes it clear that the responsible and sustainable development of these resources is not only possible, but may be the quickest and most effective route to peace and prosperity for many of these nations. The question of how this can be done is central to this book.” Through nine chapters detailing case studies of what countries like Gabon, Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania have done right, readers gain an alternative view of how developing petroleum resources positively impacts the continent.

Big Barrels lends a silver lining on Africa’s petroleum sector and how their fates are inextricably linked. Mr. Ayuk and Mr. Marques emerge through this powerful depiction as a seminal voice for how Africa charters its course and manages its natural resources. Mr. Ayuk, the founder and CEO of the pan-African Centurion Law Group and an outspoken champion of African entrepreneurship and leadership, describes the need to change the narrative on energy in Africa. “The simple fact is oil and gas provide African countries with the fastest route to prosperity,” he says, “Natural resources are a pedestal for building nations, building economies and building wealth.”

He added: “In 2017, we are forging our own ways of winning in this complex industry. Africa is not just a source of raw materials for the world. This book demonstrates the Why and How true value of oil and gas in Africa is a source of innovation and wealth (job) creation.”

Among the nine examples in the book, Big Barrels describes the rapid development of Equatorial Guinea from one of the world’s economic backwaters to a leading light in Central Africa; how Ghana turned to its active civic society to deal with its oil windfall only a few years ago; and how Tanzania is being shaped in response to global interest in its massive gas reserves.

Big Barrels: African Oil and Gas and the Quest for Prosperity will officially launch at the Africa Oil & Power conference in Cape Town on June 5-7, 2017. The book can be pre-ordered on Amazon for delivery after May 31, 2017. Limited editions signed by the author will be available at the event.

Banky W. Proposes To Adesua Etomi And She Said ‘Yes’

After months of speculation, Bankole Wellington has announced his engagement to actress Adesua Etomi.

The Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) boss took to Instagram on Wednesday to share their love story.

Banky W said they got engaged in February 2017, around the time the grapevine was insinuating that they were an item.

He wrote: “We crossed paths 2 or 3 times since 2012, but I wasn’t paying enough attention. Destiny was staring me right in the face and I was too caught up in my own hustle and paper chase, to know it. In June 2015 however, God brought you my way again, and this time, I really SAW you. I was smitten by your grace, aura, and beauty. So smitten infact, that even though I didn’t get to say a word to you that day (because you were seated far across the room), I immediately called my best friend @captdemuren and told him I’d found my next girlfriend. LOL. He laughed.

“I asked one or two people about you.. your manager Isioma, who I’d worked with previously, and then I did some research myself. Googled you, stalked your instagram.. the whole 9 yards, and the more I found out, the more you seemed like a breath of fresh air.
Now I personally don’t like being “hooked up”, so I decided to approach you myself by sliding into your DM a few days later. Introduced myself, made some silly attempts to make you laugh, told you I planned to become your biggest fan, and asked if we could be friends. Thank God you laughed at my silly jokes, and thank God you graciously agreed to become my friend. At the time, I was COMPLETELY lying about only wanting to be friends, by the way.. but I figured it was a safe place to start.

“Since that DM, I’ve spoken to you pretty much every single day for almost 2 years. Sometimes, in the morning, at night and in between. We clicked instantly, and you quickly became one of my favourite people on earth, and one of my closest friends. It got to the point where my day wouldn’t quite feel right without speaking to you. I needed your friendship. I needed, and still need, the bond we share. It completes me.

“I knew pretty early in the process that I wanted to spend forever with you. Prayed about it fervently. But it took you FOREVER (okay fine.. maybe a year and a half or so) to see things my way. But I kinda knew all along.. I was just waiting for you to catch up.

“In that time, I got engaged to you in my “made for you” music video… and by pure coincidence, we both got cast to get married in the wedding party movie.. but all the while we were the very best of friends. I guess, in our case, real life will now imitate art.

I’m not sure what the future will bring, but I’m completely sure that I am ready to face it with you by my side. I pray that God continues to build me into the kind of man that you deserve. I love you Susu.. I feel safe and at peace with you. You mean the world to me. Thank you for agreeing to be my lover and best friend. Thank you for agreeing to be my wife.

“PS: The timing of this may make some people think this is promo for another video, or a movie. It isn’t. Ironically, everyone who has seen us together in art, or in life, always insists that we have amazing chemistry. I guess you can say we have been hiding in plain sight. I fell in love with an Actress. Now my life is a movie.

“In February of 2017, I asked Adesua Tolulope Oluwaseun Etomi to be my wife. She said Yes.”

The actress also took to Instagram to share her version of events.

She wrote: “I went to an event in 2015 and I suppose that was the beginning of something amazing because once banky saw me, he decided that he was going to be my biggest fan.

“He slid into my DM and sent the funniest message and that was how we became friends. At the time, I wasn’t interested in anything but a friendship and he was very respectful of that and so we stayed just friends for about a year and a half. Our friendship opened my eyes to a lot of things. Opened my eyes to the type of man Olubankole is and WHAT A MAN. WHAT A MIGHTY GOOD MAN.

“Olubankole, Your Heart is pure and good, to the very core. You are proof that God is real, you are proof that what’s on the inside is greater and so much more powerful than what we see on the outside and you are the evidence of what I hoped for. I bless God for entrusting my heart in your hands because I know it’s safe. You are everything i prayed for and so much more.

“Thank you for praying with me, fasting with me, always making time for me, laughing with me, and caring more about me than yourself. Thank you for being kind, loving and full of Integrity. And I’d like to say one more thing. I’m SO SORRY that it took me sooo long to realise that it was you. It has always been you. It couldn’t have been anyone else.

“In February 2017, you said you couldn’t be without me and asked me to be your wife and I said YES cause I can’t be without you. It will be an absolute pleasure and one of the greatest blessings of my life to walk the path of life with you. Thank you for being who you are.
My goodluck charm, my King, my lover, my bestfriend. I love you till eternity and beyond. No, This Is not a movie.”

Why Ahmed Musa Divorced Wife – Family Sources

Social Media has been recently awashed with the news of Ahmed Musa divorcing his wife to marry his girlfriend.

Now a family source, who spoke to New Telegraph has revealed some more details on why the Leicester City footballer divorced his wife, Jamila.

According to New Telegraph, Ahmed Musa ended his marriage during the week, after he was arrested for allegedly beating his wife in their home in England. Family sources revealed that the former CSKA Moscow forward and his estranged wife, Jamila, mutually parted ways following irreconcilable differences.

The source said the decision was reached by the two parties after efforts to reconcile them failed. The source added that the player’s decision to marry a second wife was permitted by Islam but was vehemently rejected by Jamila.

“Ahmed loves his wife and would have loved to keep the union especially for the sake of their two children.

“He did everything to make Jamila see reason with him but the woman rejected all overtures.

“Several family members mediated in the crisis but the two parties were not ready to shift positions.

“They constantly had altercations and it was affecting them.

“A lot of things have been said about Ahmed on this matter which is not correct, he is a gentleman and this issue is constantly affecting him even his career.

“The wife insisted she could not cope with another woman but Musa was adamant about going ahead with it.

“He is a devout Muslim and a responsible husband and instead of keeping mistresses he chose to legally marry a new wife as permitted by his religion.

“His own family members and even his mother endorsed his plans and there is no going back.

“Ahmed’s mother was in the UK a couple of times to speak with Jamila to accept his son’s decision but she declined.”

The source further gave details about Musa’s arrest by the UK police and said it was as a result of altercations with his wife but never beat her.

The source said the last heated argument was after Jamila queried Musa for posting the picture of the new lady on his Instagram page and called her ‘my queen’.

All You Need To Know About The #5kbae And #KeepTheChangeBae Hashtag

If by now you don’t know the story behind #5Kbae and #KeepTheChangeBae hashtags it means you just do not care much for Twitter which is understandable, too much drama! Therefore, for the benefit of those who do not already know, here it is.

It all began the way all dates begin. Guy, Ayo (@Pabloayodeji) asks a lady, Ore (@Missmoshiku) who he met on Twitter, out on a date. She agrees to go out with him and they went to some mall in Ibadan for their date. Apparently, the date did not go as planned for the guy so he took to Twitter last Tuesday night to rant and call the lady out. Bear it in mind that he did this in the pettiest way possible but her response was the most shocking of all. Arguably one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Twitter Nigeria.

Instead of responding to his jabs with a Twitter thread as most people do these days, she refunded his money and displayed a screenshot of the transfer. Apparently, the whole date cost the guy N3800 but she transferred N5000 with the transfer narration “keep the change bruh”

View image on Twitter

This created so much buzz especially when @subdeliveryman tweeted about it. After so many insults were directed towards Ayo, he later apologised. Following his apologies, he wrote a blog post on how he met Ore and the full story of the aftermath of their date which went viral.

Trust Nigerians, many skits and hilarious tweets supported by memes with the hashtags have been flying all over Twitter since then.

When APC return in 2019 with “CHANGE” Theme. Pls .

How brands were able to cash in on the trend

More Nigerian brands have been able to humanise their social media handles over time. For example, the EFCC official Twitter handle, which you would expect to post serious tweets has been able to appeal to the average Nigerian with the use of popular slangs and yabs.

Then, there was Valentine’s day “men are scum” conversation between @AmericanHoneyNG and @CampariNigeria.

American Honey and Campari conversation on Nigerian Twitter

The fact that more Nigerian brands are beginning to humanise their social media handles was evident in the way they quickly jumped on the #5kbae trend with all sorts of creative tweets that had the #5Kbae and #KeepTheChangeBae hashtags.

Twitter trends have been attracting engagements for brands/companies – whoever can come up with creative and hilarious tweets that go with the trend — since its effects were discovered. They do not necessarily mean sales at the time but it gives brands the opportunity to engage, endear and advertise all at the same time to potential customers. And this particular trend was no different, as a matter of fact, it took things to a whole different level.

With less than 5k you can get any of our ?glow products and still ???#5kbae

A lot of people were impressed with poise with which Ore responded and brands/individuals did not hesitate to gift her with different items ranging from perfumes, spa treatments, hair weaves, movie tickets to even furniture. The guy was not excluded especially after he owned up to his mistakes and apologised.

Thank you so much for the movie tickets @etisalat_9ja so excited to see …… @etisalat_9ja peep the green in the background??

Ore transferred the money from her FirstBank account to Ayo’s Wema bank account so it was not surprising that the banks also joined the trend.

Wema bank #5kbae

FirstBank offered her N5000 and pronounceFirstBankFirstGem”. FirstGem is an account designed by FirstBank specifically for women aged 18 years and above, whether working professionals or entrepreneurs.

While some might question Nigerian brands and their lack of creativity, many companies have been able to garner more followers by getting involved in social media trends and this is not just peculiar to Nigeria.

View image on Twitter
The importance of social media engagements for your brand cannot be overemphasised and if you see a window of opportunity in any trending topic on social media, by all means, jump on it as fast as you can. It would not only create awareness for your brand, it could also mean more customers for you.

The parties involved in the trend have moved on to become famous and the brands who took advantage of it have gained new customers or at least new followers who could be potential customers.

Ayo even inspired a song. It is after all social media, there are no rules.

Police Arraign Apostle Suleiman’s Alleged Ex-lover, Otobo, For Stealing, Blackmail

The police yesterday arraigned Stephanie Otobo, 23, who claimed to have had an affair with Apostle Johnson Suleiman, before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, over alleged intent to steal, and blackmail.

Otobo is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, blackmail and threat to life preferred against her by the police. She was also charged alongside one Wisdom Godstime.

The prosecutor, M.A. Animashaun, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the alleged offence on February 14, 2017 at about 10:30 a.m., at Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said that the duo conspired among themselves to steal by demanding for property and an attempt to extort money. Animashaun also said that the defendants with intent to blackmail a man of God, unlawfully demanded the immediate payment of $1million to Otobo by Suleiman, else she would call a press conference and accuse him of committing adultery with her and having illicit relationship with her and thereafter kill him.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants, with intent to extort money from Suleiman, accused him of committing adultery with Otobo and that he also promised to marry her.

According to the prosecutor, the offences committed are punishable under sections 411, 301 and 303 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate Kikelomo Bukola-Ayeye in her ruling granted the defendants bail in liberal term and asked them to deposit N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must be gainfully employed.

Meanwhile, the magistrate ordered that the defendants should continue with the bail earlier granted them. She, therefore, adjourned the case to April 27, 2017 for the commencement of trial.
